Tried to boot at 200FSB. Booted up alright but it failed Prime95 after 1 minute.
Backed down to 185FSB and still running good. Retail HS/fan. Stock voltages.

40/53 Temps (System/CPU)

Looking good so far. I'll go higher soon

Yeah, my PQZEA stepping (weird one, huh?) 2500+ tops out around 182 FSB at core voltage on my 8RDA. However, I think the reason for not hitting the magical 200 FSB is because of my board, and not the CPU.

Hmmm, it seems to me that maybe you have a problem besides the processor. Have you tried to "disable Legacy USB" in the bios? That works for some people, since USB is NOT an overclockers friend...

No I haven't really tried anything. I just bumbed it up just because I could. First time OC too.
185FSB is perfectly stable.

Temps are 40/53.5 (55 max)

190FSB coming up.

Yeah, I agree. Why not try an Abit NF7-S? That's what I'm thinking about trying myself, even though I have an 8RDA3+. I can't get over 205 fsb with it, but it might just be my XP2400, too!

Well, I am probably going to try the VDD mod on my board, as I think that's the root of my problem. It's kind of a win-win situation...if the mod works, then hopefully I can hit 200 FSB. If I screw the board, then I'll HAVE to get a NF7-S. :D

Not sure exactly, but I am guessing it has something to do with the Southbridge? Does the SB control stuff like IDE, USB, LAN ports, etc.?

So just disable your IDE drives, USB, and LAN, and you'll be up and running at 200 FSB in no time. Windows won't boot, but who cares! :)

Seriously though, what is Legacy USB? Does that do the same as enabling/disabling your USB ports?

I like to know too.

See, if your motherboard actually has a setting to "disable Legacy USB", you aren't disabling the USB, you're just disabling the support of legacy usb items, but since my mobo doesn't have that, I'm not completely sure. But, if your mobo has that option, disable it and see...

bump the vcore to 1.7 and try.

when i first got my 2500+ i went straight to 11x200 and was ok and did everything fine, until i prime95. failed after 10 minutes or so

voltage is at 1.7 and i prime95'd 24+hours, not a hiccup.

Whats the big deal??!!?! Bump it to 1.75 and test. Turn off FSB/Speed specturm, thermal throttling, CPU disconnect in the BIOS. Make sure that CPU interface is enabled. When you get to a FSB that fails Prime95...run Memtest86 on it (all tests) overnight to rule out that Crucial RAM.

why dont you get a better heatsink fan. my 2500 failed prime 95 after 4 hours and temps were about the same as yours with my sotck heatsink. the i invested in a coolermaster aero7 with the copper heatsink and now my temps are 41/48 and ran prime95 for 24hours wit no problems this is not a bad heatsink for 28 dollars. check here

I think I might have the same stepping and it's running at 200FSB just fine. However my Asus A7N8X-X is slightly overvoltage at 1.68 (stock is 1.65). I'm going to try for a little more later today.

Well, I've got some SMD grabbers coming in this weekend so I can raise my VDD voltage. So hopefully, I'll be running at 200 FSB by Sunday. :)

Back again...

Vcore = 1.75
FSB = 200
Prime95 passed test 1 & 2 and now running test 3. So far so good.
Temps are higher than before, Stable at 43/59.5C
I am only running one of the 2 case fans. The front one is not connected to keep it more silent. Temp would probably drop a bit with that one connected.

Pretty good so far for stock HS/fan. 60C is still safe so I guess the rig has the power if needed.

Dang, Frustrated, you want me to buy you a cheap Thermaltake hsf, so you can get those temps down a bit?;) Seriously, newegg sells decent Thermaltakes that will lower those temps by quite a bit, for around $15... Although, it would actually be cheaper for you to just run all of your fans!

Hahaha, yeah well I didn't plan on OC'ing this stuff so this is just a test to see if it could be done. I really don't feel like taking out the HS/fan but hooking up the second fan is easy. ~60C is still safe but a bit on the high side.

Now onto OC'ing the 9700Pro but first some 3DMark03 tests to see if it will pass.
:p
