Another American forgets to declare gun when entering Canada.

Either he's a terrorist or just a big ass, cuz I can't fathom anyone, esp. a pilot, being stupid enough to "forget" they're bringing a loaded gun in their carry-on luggage.

Then again, people constantly surprise me, not necessarily in a good way.

Ouch, that sucks! Though, it sounds like it was an honest mistake. I wonder how many Canadians get caught with kinder surprises or bucky balls crossing the US border.

I wonder if they make kinder surprises that give a few bucky balls as a prize, that would be the ultimate weapon of mass destruction. Lace it with peanut butter and that thing is going to get entire schools evacuated.

So, if I understand correctly, they didn't catch him when he brought the gun in, only when he was trying to leave?

Just like any socialist country would do. Stop you trying to leave. If you are leaving, it must be because you are trying to escape for some reason. Canada is paranoid of Americans trying to leave Canada.

:whiste: They have their laws and we have ours. When in a foreign country your rights as a U.S. citizen don't mean shit. Might want to think about that when you travel abroad.

I worked with a guy here in the US who took a bobcat (or some other such large feline) skin to Canada to showoff to some coworkers. Well guess, what? It was an endangered species there.

Our corporate lawyers got involved.. he had to pay some fine then asked "how much is that in REAL money"?

Long story short: he is not allowed to enter Canada again.

Yes.

Pilots are pretty unlikely to be searched on the way in. They usually know the rules, have no criminality, and will leave. I imagine it's similar in the USA.

Knowingly possessing a loaded prohibited (yes, short barreled handguns are prohibited here) handgun, especially in an airport, is a big deal here.

How the fook long ago was this? Unless he pled guilty to a criminal offense he wouldn't be deported or otherwise barred entry permanently. Also, our money has been near parity for quite some time.

A family friend accidentally left his gun in a briefcase while he was on a business trip. The airport security didn't quite like that. He was detained and eventually let go since he had a CCW and no prior record. This was before TSA. If that happened now he'd be in Gitmo.

Look, as long as you Canucks refuse to get your vigilante beavers under control, I will continue to enter Canada fully armed.

Just can't trust Canadian beaver....

Not a bright move on the pilot's part. However, it begs the question. If they caught this guy, why aren't they catching all the smugglers bringing in Glocks for the gangbangers. Oh that's right, all the gangstas are stealing their handguns from legal long gun owners. :p

Thank you for being the resident troll in this thread. I suggest you change your username to Ugly American. You've shown your true colors, after all.

If I were this pilot's employer, I'd have to think hard about firing this guy. Serious lapse in judgement for a pilot.

Trying to carry a gun through airport security isn't a federal crime. You're handed over to the local authorities. Here in Texas you might get charged with UCW if you're a dirtbag, but most people are just told to go home and not do it again. Same story across the country. Rarely does it make the news. Plenty of people also accidentally carry their weapons onto the plane (because airport security is for show.) The dumb ones decide to tell someone instead of sitting there quietely.

Well to be fair maybe it was his first time in a while flying out of the country, so he totally did not even think about it. Stupid move nonetheless though. Really need to consider everything you are bringing, and make sure it's legal at your destination. Some music instruments are even illegal in some places, and they'll actually take them away from you. As a pilot I would imagine he should be well aware of what's illegal where.

Woulda been cheaper for pilot to chuck it into the woods and buy a new one before going back to the airport.

On the other hand, if you consider Florida as the tail, the two are just crossing swords. Hmmm...

About a year after 9/11 my father went through airport security with a pocket knife. Without even thinking about it, he simply placed it in the key basket and walked through. Retrieved it after the scan and continued on to pick up whoever he was picking up. It wasn't until he got to the car he even realized what had happened. He just laughed about it.
