I currently have a 3500+ newcastle OC'd to 2400mhz, wondering if I should get another 7800GTX or get an X2? This is a gaming/video rig

Mainly CS:S @ 1280x1024 since my flat panel max is that res. Also some quake 4 and whatever other new FPS are out

I'd go for the 7800GTX the CPU increase won't improve your gaming performance noticably, but the graphics card will let you up the eyecandy across the board.

Your cpu is not outdated at all, but dual core is the way of the future. I also find it really nice to multitask, and if you use adobe photoshop or other similar programs I heard that dual core kicks ass.

personally i would say neither and put your $$$ into an ing acct at least until april because you will get 4.75% on it. some interest is better than nothing.

with your resolution you are probably running pretty high if not the max on the eye candy witht that gpu and you are not cpu limited therefore i really don't think you will notice the $300-$500 investment much if at all. honestly, if you put in another gpu your fps will go up unless cs:s is fps locked like bf2, but i doubt you will see the difference between 60fps -> 110fps (just #'s i am pulling out of my a$$, but you get the idea).

dc/dps do kick ass in ps and a lot of areas but it really depends on the file you are working on. if you are working on a 72dpi 1280x1024 pic w/ 1 layer than with a huge 300dpi 10+layer file. also for multitasking, how many people, even if they could would encode a dvd and game? truthfully this is an question only the op can make.

Exactly. Neither is worth the upgrade considering your current spec's. Save the money.
