Hi everybody, its been a while since my last post. My last rig was a 1.6a O/C to 2.4 which has been running great for about a year and a half.

My wife bought me the following for Christmas: (without my knowledge, she has been reading Anandtech!)

ASUS P4C800 E deluxe MB
2.4C M0 stepping
2 x 512 PC 4000 Corsair XMS w/platinum heat spreaders
ATI 9800 XT
2 x 36 GB Raptors in Raid 0
Antec Truepower 480w PS
Zalman 7000a CU

I have it running at 260 FSB at stock voltage and I can prime 95 it overnight without error. If I try to raise it anymore than 260, it either goes to a black screen right after turning it on or actually gets into windows and BSOD's right away. No matter what I do in the BIOS, I still get the same results.

I have tried the CPU at 1.575v and the RAM at 2.85v but still get the same results.

Anybody have any tips in getting this thing higher than 260 FSB?

Thanks.

holy s#it your wife did a great job. She got you a great overclockable rig, thats for sure. The only thing i can really suggest is change your gat settings, in this order, to this, from top to bottom:
auto/normal/auto/disable/disable. Try 5:4 ratio, relax the timings if its still crashing. I beleive the asus OVERVOLTS so dont go to high on the voltage, from what ive read i think 1.6v is the highest/safe you should go. I'd try 5:4, and lax the timings, and see how far you get from their. But 260fsb is a pretty damn good overclock, im stuck at 3.033ghz max rock solid on my 2.6c. Your wife is awesome, my girlfriend bought me a new case and a intake for my car. She's awesome too. :)

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am a lucky guy sounds like you are too :) I have a feeling this CPU has more in it because it is running rock solid at stock voltage. Something else is holding me back.

I havent seen anything in the BIOS about 5:4 or anything like that. Does it actually have a setting for 5:4? When I do CPU-Z it says my memory is running at 3:2, or is that program screwy? Should I believe everything it says? It also says my memory is PC3700 not PC4000. Do the ASUS boards automatically slow the memory down when you boost up the FSB?

I also heard about the ASUS boards overvolting thats why I didnt want to bring the CPU over 1.575v figuring the actual was about 1.6v +/-.

I cant remember exactly how I have everything setup right now because Im at work but will check later on.

Thanks again.

hrmm... your board might not support 3700ddr, my is7-e doesnt support 3500ddr, but having faster ram is better once you start overclocking. 3:2 ratio is actually the slowest ratio, 5:4 is the next steup, and 1:1 is supposed to be the default setting. i would look into a bios update and run a 5:4 ratio. It should be located in the bios somewhere. CPU-Z is actually very accurate, so you probly are running a 3:2 ratio. And now that i think of it, i have no clue why i told you to change your gat settings, you dont even have an abit motherboard, lol. Nevermind that part.

Look in your bios for the ram speed, it's probably set to auto right now.

1:1 is 400mhz
5:4 is 320mhz
3:2 is 266mhz

try setting your ram ratio to 320mhz that will give you 5:4 ratio.

Sounds like the dreaded CH-5 fsb problem. I run at 296 fsb with my old xms but can't run above 255 with the new corsair xms with the ch-5 chips. Makes no difference what dividers I use either.

Thanks everybody.

Budman, I have seen that and mine is set to auto so maybe that is why it is running at 3:2. Anybody know if the ASUS boards slow the memory down with higher FSB's?

RamIt, I hope thats not the case with my memory, that would s*ck...

Does newegg take returns of memory? :)
