And so, the cyber war between Isis and Anonymous rages on. After shutting down over 5000 of the militant group's social media accounts, and publishing a handy “how to” hacking guide against them, Anonymous are well into the midst of their “biggest” ever terrorist takedown. The online activists are apparently more determined than ever to destroy Isis – and now, they may have just unleashed their most powerful weapon yet.

Dazed Digital - Anonymous launching cyber offensive on ISIS

The response to ISIS' use of social media and propaganda has seemed pretty weak. Particularly when it comes to young people, though, it seems like ISIS tries to represent itself as the new way to 'rebel'. And much like parents have difficulty in steering their teenage children away from trouble, I think civilized society has difficulty in convincing people on the fringe that ISIS' propaganda is complete bullshit. Sometimes the harder you try, the more resistance you see to what you are saying.

That's no excuse for the naivety of these people from relatively comfortable lives who join ISIS, of course, and I think governments, churches/temples/mosques, social groups, and others should be doing a lot more than they currently are to counteract the propaganda.

The best deterrent to propaganda is self love. Not egotism, but a life of meaning. We have created a world of competition where hope is the first victim. Terrorism arises in a world where few have any meaningful chance. We kill ourselves from within because if we have just a little we are afraid somebody else will take it. We create what we fear.

So now governments won't be able to track ISIS communication? This seems like it's one of those ideas that sounds good but turns out to be really bad.

How's this going to funnel more money into the military complex or American weapons into ISIS' hands? IT ISN'T. :'(
