been playing Anon 1404 the past few days. Its not that bad. In fact its pretty damned good. It's certainly a GORGEOUS game thats for sure. My only gripe is it can be a tad slow.

it seems pretty hard sometimes. like I can't figure out how to manage money. It looks like your citizens are the only things bringing in cash, unless you also sell goods. It seems to vary greatly. one minute i'll have an income of 100 and then next its at 23 and then 60, then 100 again, then 120. wtf?

I also can't figure out the trade between cities. like I can make a ship take 10 tons of stone from city A and drop it off at city B but does it always take the same amount that you set? Again, this seems to vary to me

And sometimes my resource gathers don't seem to gather resources or they magically get used...

Make sure your citizens/patricians/nobles always have a decent stock of the goods they need, or else you'll get high level citizen exoduses every time a good runs out and put you into a temporary deficit.

Your ship won't take the full amount of a trade good if there isn't enough in city A's storage.

Resources won't gather if your storage is full (blue exclamation) or if you are out of market carts (yellow exclamation). Definitely level up your trading posts for more carts. Building resources like stone and glass are used when your citizens level up and build their new house. If you need to save up on a resource, you can go to the marketplace and tell it to hold ascension rights.

I've been playing it as well recently, is great fun so far- only done a few missions though.

My wife and I used to play Anno 1602 together on our LAN, what great fun. We were all lined up for 1404 when we found out it had no multiplayer. :(

I tried the demo out and it seems like a clone of the last one. Anyone else play both and notice a difference that I'm missing?

I will buy it most likely when the price drops, it just seems too simple of a game and not a lot of depth to trading or more importantly for me building. The graphics though are quite nice to look at.

Are the Anno games any good in general? They have the 1701 Gold Edition for $10 at the Gamestop nearby, I might have to pick it up just to try it out...

Quick question: to build a new settlement (marketplace) on a new island you have to get a cargo ship, stock it with enough stuff to build a marketplace, and then take it to the new shore, right?

yeap. And then with that ship highlighted, in it's control window there is a button of "build marketplace". took me a bit to see that.

I'm stuck on spices now. I need spices to level up my citizens, but I have no spice farm options available. I scouted all the southern islands and they're all uninhabited, so no one to purchase spice farm technology from...

Build a settlement on one of those islands and/or trade for spices.

I got the 1701 Gold a couple months ago, and it's good fun. Multiplayer is terrrrrrrrible, and every game that I've played with my friends has gone out of sync. Single player is great though. Definitely worth $10

I just went ahead and got the game, and all I can say is that 1701 Gold Edition was totally worth $10. It's one of those games where you say to yourself "just 10 more minutes and I'll go to bed"... next thing you know it's 2AM, lol. This game is very dynamic and entertaining coming with a rather deep learning curve forcing you to build strategically and smart.

If you are halfway interested in empire/city builders then you should definitely try 1701 out. As for 1404, I've only tried the demo for about 10 minutes so I can't really comment on it, other then the fact that I know I'm going to be getting it either when I fully beat 1701 on harder difficulties or when the price of 1404 goes down.

Anyone know if there are any significant differences between Anno 1404 (EU Version) and Dawn of Discover (US Version)? The only difference I can tell is that Anno 1404 is selling for $25 at GoGamer and Dawn of Discovery is for $50.
