I am experiencing a spontaneous anomaly with my computer that started today after I had played 1 session of Unreal Tournament.

I have not made any hardware or software changes to my computer and all has operated as usual up until today. I am using 800x600 resolution and the NVIDIA drivers 28.32 and cant run 1024x768 as old monitor wont support higher resolution at 4X AGP.

There are no viruses residing on my computer.

After the first session of Unreal Tournament the game suddenly "slowed down" and was "choppy" showing frame by frame the movement of the characters.

Windows suddenly showed any program activity several times slower than usual. Upon rebooting, my Creative Lab web cam was inoperative, not usual.

A virus scan that normally takes 35 minutes took 2 hours.

The CPU temp was only 49.5C.

I ran Norton System works 2002 and found a few simple errors that were fixed but the system still ran slowly.

I tired to re-install WIN 98 and upon rebooting, the system requested a change to my video software settings and upon pressing "cancel" I then saw only a blue screen that said my "Windows configuration was wrong" and that there were "errors in my system files".

The same messages occurred after attempting to re-install WIN 98 again.

What do you think is going on and how can it be fixed short of re-formatting the HDD and reinstalling the OS?

Thanks.

Have any programs such as wink*.exe running or wqk.exe? You may want to take a look here. I know you said you have no viruses, but it won't hurt to double check.
