how much does it run you every year ? It's about $150 for dhlpp booster + rabies vaccination ... sound right ? I'm reading the dhlpp booster is for puppies only... ours is already 7 years old.

If you go to my vet, it is $250. Everything is $250. Weighing him is $250. A full exam is $250. A stool test is $250. I don't know how they manage it, but it seems that the bill is $250 everytime I go...

You might check with you local animal shelter about the shots. Ours offers rabies shots (once every three years) for $5 and the annual shots for $20.

interesting... I just called the shelter and they said the annual shot is the rabies shot ... free twice a year (next is in March - we can wait)... donate $5 or so...

He also mentioned a "distemper shot" (that's what it sounded like) that we can get at PETCO. Any idea what that shot is ?

I believe what they said was a "distemper" shot. It is a deadly contagious virus.

The cost for my dog's annual shots is about $60. But from Mwilding's post I guess I should be thankful for my vet. I can bring my dog in anytime to weigh her. Also, the last two times I brought her in to check on some small lumps she had there was no charge.

thanks - I'm reading from here that normal adult dogs should get the distemper shot every 3-4 years.

Still wondering about the annual shots ... is that all there is ? Just rabies ? Still wondering what DHLPP Booster is...

DOGS:

Annually:
-Heartworm preventive
-DHLPP vaccination (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvo Virus)
-Rabies vaccination

Puppies -
-2mo DHLPP vaccine
-3mo DHLPP booster
-4mo DHLPP booster
-Stool check and worming every 6 months.

My dog is due i think next week for his shots. i think it all it cost me like 300 bucks last time, but he had several other things done at the same time.
Yes i just found the receipt.
DHlppc : 20$
Rabies : 15$
Bordetella : 15$
Vet screen/cbc/T4 76$ <--- no idea what this was.
Urinalysis : 23$

Hm... I don't know if this is true for dogs, but in cats there are a lot of vets who have studied vaccinations that are "annual" and found that most of them do not need to be annual vaccinations. In particular, rabies vaccinations in cats are somewhat debated since rabies shots are a known source of cancer and indoor cats are not always legally required to get them.

Modern rabies shots are good for three years.

Parvo and distemper (perhaps others) are in the annual shot.

OK. I finally got off my lazy butt and dragged out Fred's records.
On 5/15/04 I paid $25 for the following:
Rabies
Canine Distemper
Canine Parainfluenza
Canine Adenovirus
Canine Parvovirus
Canine Coronavirus

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now if I had the shots at Fred's vet I would pay $45 for the office call and $29 for the rabies shot alone. I'm afraid to ask what the other shots would cost.

Lesson: it pays to shop around.

My vet knows what I do... rescuing animals and stuff... so When I go, I take them all at the same time... he closed his office 1/2 hour early for me... All the kittes get all their vaccinations and he gives them all a thorough checkup.

I pay between $8-10 per shot, and no office visit charge.

🙂

edit: Or local shelter does rabies shots for free once a year, but I like the full check up and other shots, so I get everything done at my vet.
