Annoying Wireless Connection

I have a fast realiable wireless connection, but it seems to be a falsehood. Whenever I open up Steam(Game Platform), I end up seeing servers with very high pings. I mean they range from 1 server with a ping of ~60 and then 299 servers with a ping of +300. How is it possible that my fast wireless connection is only able to see servers with a ping of +300? It honestly makes no sense to me. To top it off, whenever I am in game or just completely idle or at any given moment, my AIM, MSN, and XFire will disconnect and reconnect to the internet. It is as though that their bandwith just completely leaves them and then comes back in .2 seconds.

Please, I really would like my wireless to work flawlessly. I never had problems like this with direct connection, and since direct connection is out of the picture, I need this to work flawlessly. Please help.

Hard to tell from what you've described, but check a couple of things:
First, make sure that in your wireless connection properties, the "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication" box is NOT checked.
If it's not checked, or you unchecked it and it still gives you problems, then go into your services and stop the Wireless Zero Config service. Don't disable it, because your wireless needs it to establish the connection, but once you're connected it just gets in the way.

i am using wireless though, and get below 4ms in a typical ping to my router downstairs... However, i do get occasional latency spikes which is probably because of my signal quality (reported as: poor) so my next comp upgrade will be an antenna for the router itself (it has a not very powerful internal one as standard.)

How is Your signal quality?
