Annoying Windows 7 dual monitor issue

I have two displays on my machine. My primary display is on the right, secondary on the left, which is the opposite to default. In the screen resolution dialog you just drag the secondary over to the left and it works fine. However every time I restart my machine it reverts back to to default primary on the left, which messes with my desktop icons and obviously doesn't work properly with regards to moving the mouse from one screen to the other.

Has anyone had this problem before? I tried Googling it and came up with nothing. It's really freaking annoying.

Have you tried switching the outputs on the back of your video card?

The simplest solution is often the best, pretty much what I did. Windows seems to detect whatever output is providing an output signal first and use that as a primary monitor no matter what you previously selected, and most cards will display on one output slightly before the other during bootup.

Weird. I ran same dual set up as you with no issues. Maybe its a driver thing any how.

You could try and just power the primary monitor and when the computer is booted push the powerbutton on the other monitor.

NVIDIA and ATI have "profiles" you can setup. Simply set up one of these profiles with their programs and it should stay put. Sometimes these software overide W7s if they are diffrent.

I swapped outputs as well to fix this, and now my annoying win7 dual monitor issue (nvidia) that I haven't yet figured out is the inability to set a desktop wallpaper pic to span both monitors, instead of duplicating it on both.

/edit: Ultramon is the solution
