Annoying Vista issue.

So far I like Vista. I've had no problems besides this one and have enjoye my experience.

That being said, here's the problem:

I'm running an internal Linksys PCI Wireless G adapter. When I first boot up the machine, it works perfectly fine. If I let the computer sit and go to screen saver and then come back to the comp, it works fine.

When I leave the computer on for an extended period of time and let the computer enter sleep mode, the adapter stops working. When I bring the comp out of sleep mode, Vista tries to install the adapter again and says it fails. In the device manager it appears that the adapter gets uninstalled. When I try to reinstall the driver, the installation fails every time.

The only way to get network connectivity back is to reboot the computer and then everything is fine again. I dont even have to reinstall the drivers to get it to work. The damn thing just goes from non-functional to working properly all in the span of a reboot.

Any advice would be nice.

long shot, but the card isnt overheating is it?

maybe try a different pci slot ( i think you just supposed to say that 🙂 )

Driver issue for sure - had a similar problem on a desktop wireless card and ended up getting another to solve the problem -

I had a feeling it was a buggy driver. I just can't believe that sleep mode causes such a hassle.

When I first installed Vista, I used the driver CD to install the adapter. I subsequently let windows update manager install a driver update for the card. I guess I'll see if I can dig up some new drivers.

Power management is one of the most tricky parts of driver development...
