by the way, i'm not talking about the game getting choppy, i'll be getting a steady 35fps (i consider playable), and the game tends to pause for a little less then a second, then keeps going at 35fps again, that happens every few minutes, and is extremly annoying, especially when i try to snipe or i'm in a fire fight, i was thinking this could be something to do with the swapfile? what are ideal settings for it.....

this system is old, and will be upgraded in a few weeks, but for now i'd like it sorted out :( ( i ran scandisk and defrag the other day, tihs didn't help)

First disable virtual memory. Then reboot. Defrag your hard drive. Set both the minimum and maximum values for you virtual memory to the same value (somewhere between 2-4X your RAM). I use 2.5X so that would be 320MB for you. Now reboot one last time and see if that helped.

Also, do you have DMA set for your hard drive and CD/DVD-ROM (assuming they support it)? Running without DMA has been known to cause jerkiness.

I have the same video card as you. Sometimes if detail is set too high...it pauses output and "catches up" for me. That might be it for you.
Or we could both have the same problem :D

i'm not sure whether they support DMA, but if they did, where would the check box or whatever be to enable it, so i'd look there, or is it a BIOS setting?

I had this kind of problem when I had a Hewlett Packard Scanjet 3200C scanner. The momentary freeze up would happen during normal usage too, not just UT. The scanner died a while ago and I got a USB Scanjet 3300C, works great and no pauses.

This sounds like it could be the video card switching textures. It's an older video card. You might turn down the details and see if it makes a difference, or see if you can borrow a newer video card from a friend and see if that makes a difference. If they do, it's probably texture switching and the only solution would be lower details or a better video card with more video memory.
