Annoying sounds while using onboard Nforce4 sound...

Hello.

My soundcard is dying. It's a Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer 5.1 I've had it for many years now and it's really starting to give out. When in use, it only gives audio to the left speaker and in addition to that, you can fiddle with the jack and eventually get it in two ears, but it's very quiet then.

I decided since I knew it was going out (did some tests) that I would use the onboard video my new Nforce 4 mobo came with.

I installed it and it's nearly worthless. I figured it would be decent because I used to have an Nforce 2 motherboard that I gave to my girlfriend and the sound sounds great on it. But with this one, I get static all the time (very quiet, but annoying) and when the CPU is doing ANYTHING there's this very odd ringing.

Is there any solution to this? Thanks.

Specs are

Abit KN8 SLI mobo
Athlon X2 4200+ (Overclocked to 2530GHZ)
GeForce 6800GS (Also overclocked. 485core and 1.1 mem are specs, it's at 535core and 1.2mem)
1Gig DDR333/DDR400 ram

Thanks for the tip and I agree, the Nforce 2 sounds great.

I decided to give the Sound Blaster a thorough cleaning and blew all the dust off with some compressed air. I also blew out the line out jack and lo and behold, it works fine again.

I had an inkling it may have been some dust or some such in there, as I'm constantly switching between headphones and desktop speaker (since my desktop speakers don't have a jack on them), so I'm just going to assume that was it and not think about it anymore
:p
