Annoying problem with game

I just bought Etherlords. A wonderful turn based stategy game. However, I am experiencing a problem with it. 15 to 45 minutes into playing the games shrinks to the tool bar and a windows message comes up saying

"can't lock surface. (0x887601c2) Access to this surface is being refused
because the surface memory is gone. The DirectDrawSurface object representing
this surface should have Restore called on it."

I have to end task through task manager, and restart the game.

Anyone ever experience this before?

I'm running a P4, win 2k OS, with 384 rd ram and a nvidia geforce 2 gts.
