Annoying Lockup Problem.

Hey guys,

So...

I'm getting this random lockup at least once or twice everyday which requires a manual shutdown, It can be either playing game or just on windows -_-. I build this PC on January before the SB bug then just switched the MB for a B3.

I have tried:

  • Back on stock settings
  • Ran Memtest overnight (not a single error)
  • Ran HD Tune Pro health checker on all the drives (not a single bad sector)
  • CPU and GPU temps seem fine, 28-35c for CPU and like 32-39c for the GPU
Any other suggestions to test the drives would be good as I don't trust HD Tune that much.

I'm thinking it's my PSU for some reason, we just had an hurricane pass by and energy was coming and going so maybe it just died on me.

PS. Specs are on my sig and it's no longer OC'd.

Tried running Prime95? How about Furmark or OCCT?

Edit: If it is the PSU, Corsair has a wonderful warranty. 🙂

Your surge protector or UPS should have taken care of any voltage issues.

Try giving the RAM and/or CPU a little more voltage. Sometimes things don't want to work correctly at stock volts after they've been overclocked.

Played with this a little and it still occurs. =_=

Ran Prime95 overnight and it did not crash.

Updated the bios to the lastest since I had a really old one, still happens.

Ughh I thought it was the PSU 'cuz it mostly happened while gaming but I been getting crashes just browsing around the net which shouldn't be using so much wattage.

Try turning off EIST and any other C-state related options in the BIOS. That'll help narrow down whether or not it only happens when the CPU is transitioning to and from idle state.

Always had those options OFF

Even if this sounds weird... I re OC'd the CPU but just with a lil more voltage than what I had before and gave the memory a lil bit more voltage too... so far no lockups. 😱

Sounds like the memory controller is getting weak from the overclock. Most likely you will have to bump the voltage every 3-6 months until it dies altogether.
