annoying CS freezing

alright my computer is being retarded and gets these 5 second freezes in CS every now and again. when i first played it didnt even happen, then it started happening every now nad again and now its all the time. its annoying like none other. I know I've heard of problems with DFI freezing in games, but i thought that was nf4, and this freezing only occurs in CS. Any ideas?

Is there a lot of hdd activity when the freeze occurs?

I have the same issue but it's rare. Luckily it mostly happens when I'm far from battle. I don't think I've died from it yet. No HD activity, just freezes and then resumes about five seconds later.

cs 1.6? Kind of internet?

If it's only in cs, 9/10 chances it has something to do with the default rates. For some strange reason, Valve made the default rates very low (in both cs and source) for the 56k players...

running through a wireless router by any chance?

I have Adelphia cable internet, and I split the connection with the 3 other guys I live with by the way of a router. It is wireless, but I am physically plugged in when I play on my desktop. 2 outta the 3 guys also play with me, and they don't have this problem at all. This is CS: Source by the way. The connection has sufficiant bandwidth for all of us to play and we barely lag at all even when all 3 of us are on usually around 30. Yeah, I think I remember seeing heavy HDD activity when it occured. AGP fast writes maybe, I havent looked into that yet?

I had a similar problem. Turned off AGP fast writes and it was fixed. I heard there is a problem with the Gf6 cards and the nForce 3 chipset.
