Annoyed at Vista - Set me straight!

Here are some issues with Vista Ultimate that are frustrating me to the point where I just want go back to XP. Any suggestions before I go down that road again?

1. Can't move files! Security warnings pop up so my work around has been copying then deleting files. SOOO tiresome

2. Installing software seems to take forever now.

3. If I clicked on a damn icon why is it asking me permission to run that program? This is mostly when installing software

4. Quicktime crashes all the time (I know, blame Apple but it worked flawlessly in XP)

5. Sluggish. I start a program and it takes 10 seconds to load up.. After 3 or 4 cycles it's only 3 seconds (yay, superfetch) but that still feels slower than XP.

6. Sometimes one program seems to be able to take down the os. Firefox sometimes eats up 90% of the resources (happened to me back in WinXp days too) but XP allowed me to easily kill the task - Vista locks up for much longer before allowing me to get into the task manager

7. WEIRD one. Flash sometimes works, sometimes shows up as a missing plugin. I must have installed it 4 times and I don't get the issue at all. Flawless in IE but Firefox and Opera both state that the plugin is missing about 1/3rd of the times. A restart fixes the issue.

That's it for now. Here are my specs.
X2-4200
1 gig of ram
geforce 6150 int. graphics (set to only use 32m of system memory)

could someone like reply and not just read the thread?

I'm curious to know if I'm doing something wrong - maybe there are settings that would alleviate some of the issues. Or, if you have similar experiences share them as well, just to help me figure out if I should go back to XP or not.

Thanks!

Try posting full hardware specs and what Vista version you have ie 32 bit or 64 bit, plus what software you have installed ie anti-virus software etc....and what drivers.

I'm using HP Vista x64 and don't have any problems with Firefox (using Firefox 32 bit version with Thunderbird 64 bit version).

FYI latest Quicktime with iTunes has some Vista fixes too, seems ok on my PC.

UAC enabled will always ask for permission when you click on an icon or install software, this is a Vista security feature, however you can disable it (I leave it on).

To speed programs up try more ram or add a ReadyBoost USB Flash drive(especially for 512mb or 1GB users).

Have you done a defrag at all?

Has to folders, normally you can go into properties of the folder and tick the access settings for things like allow modify, delete of folder for users etc...)

I have all the above installed except Opera and Open Office and they work fine, any reason why you have both Opera and Firefox installed together?

Btw did you run Windows Update lastnight or today?... has lots of software compatibility update fixes.

Also if you want a Vista compatible free AV try Avast or AVG.

Try installing CCleaner and run that link.

I don't have any problems with firefox on my home premium 64 - but, for the love of god, turn User Account Control off!!!! Its the most hideous feature I have ever seen. Re-install firefox and opera and all the plugins after disabling it to make sure all the features are allowed in. As for iTunes Apple just haven't released a version that works properly - I think its something to do with the program not recognising the driver software for the video card, and so it acts as tho you are using native XP drivers (eg, really slow to scroll etc).

Your vista install may feel a bit slower than XP because vista uses more ram - my system boots in using 800meg of ram whereas XP usually booted in using about 550meg. If you want the system to feel snappier, disable the 'fade effect' and 'animate windows' in the advanced tab of visual settings in advanced system settings (right click properties on my computer).
