Annoyances at work (now with poll)

This message will be somewhat of an 'etiquette' post or PSA. It seems like there are many things that customers do that annoy each and every one of us daily. As a customer, I try to be annoyance-free; however there are probably instances when we are annoying, unbeknownst to us.

I will use myself as an example. I work in a pharmacy and at least one person per day will ask for their subscription. It's a PRESCRIPTION! Also, it's not necessary to ring our drive-thru buzzer. There's some sort of motion/weight sensor that will 'ding' inside the pharmacy when someone pulls up. Many people don't know this and think it's like Sonic's Call Button where they MUST buzz the buzzer for service. Well...it's not.

I'm sure, if i can think of other things, I'll edit later.

So what do customers do/say that constantly annoy you at work and how do you cope (poll)?

Cheers,
KiM

Edited: I knew i'd come up with more stuff...heh

When people are just wandering around the store or drive-thru waiting for a prescription--why can't they get their checks partially made out (mainly for the people who write REALLY slow)? Things would just flow so much faster. This doesn't always annoy me though--more of a case by case basis. heh

When people don't know what store they're in. that's just weird.

When people come to the pharmacy to pick up their prescription and just say, "I'm picking up a prescription"...yet they don't tell me who they are. OR, when they say they're picking up for someone...but give you ONLY the first name. Yeah...because how many Johns can there possibly be? :disgust:

When people think I can just pull insurance ID numbers out of my bum when they decide not to bring it with them.

That's all for now. =) (Reading the deli post made me remember a lot of things for some reason..heh)

What is the buzzer there for then? For decoration? Of course they're going to buzz it.

I hate when someone calls in and they speak in some foreign language. This is AMERICA, jackass. Learn to speak the language. Don't b1tch at me because we're not bilingual in the native tongue of Yemen.

Well right now I'm working at a grocery store deli while I'm in school....I hate it....here's a list of annoying things people do.

1. When the customer has to manually flag me down because they are in such a big hurry but then don't know what they want.

2. When they tell me they want a brand of turkey which all the damn turkey's are the same brand instead of telling me what flavor.

3. When I ask if they would like anything else they reply with a "yes" then take another 5 minutes to decide, this is after I just gave them their first order which took 5 minutes to slice the way they wanted it.

4. When I ask "May I help you?" and they just ignore me and walk off

5. When I serve them something from the hot case like fried chicken or something, they touch it then tell me they want a different piece.

6. When the customer is at the hotcase and they point out that they want a specific piece of fried chicken that's under everything else and it's not bigger then the 5 that were on top of it.

7. When a customer seriously takes 10+ min to decide what they want when I have a line of 5 people backed up and the other people who are in line get pissed off at me for it.

This is just a semi list...oh MORE will be coming....

you sound very anti-social with that statement.

My annoyances at work are people constantly talking to me about how their weekend was, or just plain stupid bla bla bla conversation. Makes me look like I'm not doing my work by having to listen to such bullsh|t conversation that has no meaning or no point.

danny~!

I work at a pizza place - I hate when people call up and just start blurting out their order without me getting any of their information. Then, after I tell them I need their phone number, and have them confirm their last name and address, they STILL try to give me their order without their personal info!! :|

Or I'll have people call up after we've closed - I always answer the phone with a courteous "Thanks for calling PJs, I'm sorry, we're closed". I'll get stupid responses like people still trying to give me their order, or some idiot will ask "Then why in the fsck are you answering the phone?!?!"
- To that, I replied "Because I don't want to hear the damned thing ring".

At 2 am once, as I was getting ready to leave and I got a phone call - I answered with the prompt above, and the girl replied back with "well, your flier says you're open late night, and we're hungry, we have a lot of people."
- "Well Ma'am, it's actually early morning, so you're out of luck - I think albertsons is still open, pick up some fruity pebbles." *click* - I hung up the phone

Oh yea, and non-tippers suck too. And people who only tip a buck or two on an 40+ dollar order are also bungholes.

I can't stand it when people think that the delivery charge goes to the driver, then they don't tip. I don't see any of the delivery charge PEOPLE!

People who call when their pizza is a few minutes late, AND exaggerate their order time profusely inhale too - I often get calls from people saying that they ordered over an hour ago and the pizza hasn't been delivered - when I check the time, it's always fun to tell them that it's only been half and hour :p

Your reason makes perfect sense. That's exactly why I think it's necessary for people to know the purpose of the buzzer. hehe =) Sometimes someone creeps up really slowly or someone pulls up in a motorcycle, and the sensor doesn't detect that. I can understand buzzing in that case or when a technician isn't readily viewable from the big ol' bullet-proof window, but I do think that people should give us a good 10 seconds after they arrive in the drive thru before buzzing. What annoys me most is when I'm standing there helping the first lane, and they proceed to buzz anyway.

AND another thing that annoys me...when people are just wandering around the store or drive-thru waiting for a prescription--why can't they get their checks partially made out (mainly for the people who write REALLY slow)? Things would just flow so much faster. This doesn't always annoy me though--more of a case by case basis. heh

Oh AND...when people don't know what store they're in. that's just weird.

cheers,
KiM

I am a perfect customer, always polite and obligatory. What annoys me are stupid clerks who don't understand english and force me to repeat myself making me feel dumb. And worse, I hate management that forces employees to ask if I want an extended warranty on some cheap piece of crap I buy at BestBuy.

What I hate most: I request clarification of a form I've received, because it isn't clear. The bozo sends me a new form, with exactly the same wording as the first one. Then I have to request another new one, and they call me: "I've already done this twice. Do I really need to do it again?" No, I just sent you that letter because I have nothing better to do than spend sixty cents to ruin your day. :|

Disagree, Fish is much worse IMO.

Oh my god that just reminds me. About a month ago, my boss brought some fried squid or some type of fried fish and placed it in the microwave. GOD only knows how many minutes she put and she completely forgot about it. The entire office was smoky and smelled of nasty burnt fish. As you may or maynot know that smell is extremely disgusting and stayed in our office for the remaining month. Idiots I swear.

That's 'cuz your boss has people skills, damn it.

I hate clerks that don't like the money you give them, because it's torn or taped or even really old. If it has all the serial numbers it's legal tender.
One time pumped 20 dollars worth of full, all I had in my pocket was two Canadian 5s and an old style Canadian 20 that had seen better years, for those in the know it had the mountains on the back so it must have been close to 25 years old. But the clerk looks at it and says he can't take it because another customer won't except, I just told him that I didn't have any other money and it was legal tender so he had to take it. In the end he took it but wanted my phone number and license plate number.

The fact that our customers (schools) spend $$ on one of our biggest services, yet they apparently can't be bothered to tell their faculty (who are the ones actually using said service) that they just bought a major upgrade to their existing service. The ensuing "Why doesn't Service X do what the old version used to do?" questions from these poor saps makes me tear my fscking hair out and curse their administration/IT people endlessly.

Not to mention, the nimrods who already have the program on one OS but need to get it for another OS, yet seem to be expecting to get it for free. Talk to Sales, jag-off. They'll be more than happy to sell you a license for it.
