Anniversary: Nov 14, 1960 Ruby Bridges at 6 years old integrates public schools.

Ruby, a 6 year old black girl had to endure crowds of jeering white people and threats to her life. She sat in a classroom isolated because no other white families wanted their kids in a room with her at first.

What is sickening is she had to endure all that as a 6-year-old black girl, but today's Republicans don't want their precious 6-year-old white kids to learn about it.

I know you’re posting this as something to be celebrated…but it is very bittersweet.

This event marks the start of the long march towards defunding public education by the GOP and the Southern Democrats who preceded them. No, these people were never stupid enough to march around with signs reading “Defund the schools” but they still got it done.

iN 1960, I was going to grade school on a USAF base...we were already integrated...several black and a couple of Hispanic kids in the school. (and in the same classrooms as white kids...oh the horror!)
