Quality dubs or subbed.
Dragon Ball (not DBZ)...Macross II...Ghost in the Shell...Flame of Rekka...Beserk...Akira...Blue Seed

Japanese language with English subtitles all the way!

Of course, movies like Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust aren't available in Japanese with english subtitles b/c a japanese voice track was never made. But that doesn't matter anyway, Bloodlust's voice acting isn't terrible

My preference is Japanese voice acting with english subtitles. Well, that for MOST anime (I currently haven't made up my mind on cowboy bebop... I kinda like the endlish dubs they did)

Guybrush... is that the new Vampire Hunter D movie? Wow!
<runs off to Amazon to order>

<< I like subs in most cases, unless there's a real quality dub..

Bebop, Trigun, NGE, Outlaw Star, Ghost in the Shell, Akira...
>>

I usually use teh subs, but I often don't feel like "reading" my movies, so I like to have a dub available if I can.
Favorites I've seen....Lain, Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Tokyo Babylon, Ruin Explorers, Lodoss War, Tenchi Muyo.

I hate having to read subs and miss out on the visuals. I'll take even a bad dub over subs, but I still wish they would do a better job with them. Actually, since I am wishing, I wish I could speak Japanese so I wouldn't have to bother with either.

yah quality dubs....

i think the best has to be Ninja Scrolll....shoot i still haven't seen the subbed version ...but quality dubbed are cool when they come...but i hate the tv edit the most...i mean dbz has a lot of cuts....anad what the heck were they thinking when they put escaflowne on TV....shoot they cut HELL@ scenes...and they started with episode 2....and they tried to make it geared towards Van...and i like the guy...but how can you misdirect such an anime like this.....people will remember it as a boring "saturday cartoon" but it's so FREAKING AWESOME!!

btw man i have the collection...and i can't stand the dubbing!!

I prefer dubs if the job was done right. Cowboy Bebop is an example of a very well dub-job. DBZ is also pretty good. Japanese voice acting all sounds the same. The girls always have annoying high-pitched voices and the guys either have a deep voice or a announcer-style voice. Plus I don't like reading subs...it prevents full enjoyment of the show! As long as the voice actors know their role, they provide just as much emotion as the original jap voice actors.

<< dudes, they're cartoons. it's not like their mouths were ever really synced in the first place, right? >>

It's not the sync that makes people dislike dubs, it the HORRENDOUS voice-acting. Like in Evangelion, Shinji is about to DIE he's like 15 years old, just a kid, trapped in a disabled Eva, about to die and he's just kinda like "Oh? eh? The water's getting cloudy. Oh dear. Someone help me. Anyone. I'm scared."

Yeh, he really conveyed a sense of fear to me there 🙂

Subbed, even though I cannot understand much of what they say it's always better than the (most often) crappy english dubs.
German dubs often are as bad as the english but for some series they are actually better plus the germans don't cut anime as much like the US, if at all.

Riddleman, now, now take it easy.
Anime and comics are two different things, anime is cartoons and the comics drawn like anime is called manga.
And manga running the comic book industry, well the US comic makers just have to do more and make better series so that they sell better, ne?
I used to be a fan of US comics, but then I accidentally discovered anime and later I bought some manga, now I much prefer manga to US-comics because, because, eh, it's hard to say a single point. I'll figure the most important out and post later.
Oh, and please state exactly why you think it's ruining the industry and why it's bad so we can get a discussion going.

oh, i see now. thanks.

<< Both, which is why I like DVD. >>

agreed. the DVD format has quelled a lot of the sub/dub war. Yay DVD! Yatta!

<< Guybrush... is that the new Vampire Hunter D movie? Wow! >>

Unfortunately, VH: D 2 isn't out on US DVD yet. But the Divx rip of the Japanese DVD is up and about on IRC. Look for it there.

You can't have a definate yes or no, it depends on the anime.

Evangelion - GREAT GREAT anime, subbing is great, dubbing SUCKS OMG WORST DUBBING EVER WTF DID THEY EVEN RELEASE IT?!?!

Cowboy Bebop - Great anime, great dubbing, decent subbing. Spike has the coolest dubbed voice.

Tenchi - decent anime, good dubbing, good subbing

Dragonball - great subbing, good dubbing, only thing from making the dubbing great is all the editing

It's all over the place, and yes that's why dvd's are so great 🙂 Favorite animes: Cowby Bebop, Trigun, Evangelion, etc. etc.

OMGOMG!!! AIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
stupidest thread ever.

it should be painfully obvious that raw/subs are THE ONLY RIGHT WAY to watch anime

some of the pro dub comments in this thread are so BLASPHEMOUS. :|:Q
i sentence you guys to 50 years in the prison of yaoiness. hope your evil ways are corrected... :|:frown:

especially those that like dubbed anime that MEGUMI was originally in... GRRRR:|:|:|

NO DUBBED. Most dubs are done by large companies, and those large companies don't want to put out a bad image for people who watch anime, so they practically change the whole story just so they can remove one curse word. (in some animes). But not all subbed are good as some fansubs are done by idiots who simply go by writing the script on instinct as they don't speak a word of japanese. However, a better way of watching anime besides dub and sub is to learn japanese. ^^.

none of the more prominent fansub groups use old scripts. all groups have translators, timers, editors, typesetters, and encoders that work on a release.
