Animated gifs not animating??

I've saved a few animated gifs I found but some have stopped being animated; they're just pics now. What's the problem and how do I fix it?

I have been a long time user of animated GIFs - they are on my desktop and in my email. I use Impact Software's Microangelo to do that. My cursor, my busy icon, wait icon - all are animated. Try the demo of Microangelo and see if it brings you some motion.

If you select Internet Explorer or Any internet browser to open the file, they will start to move again.

Thanks for the replies.

1) I've tried opening them up in IE. Strangely, the ones that have stopped animating come up as broken links (small red "x") in IE. The avatars that are animating fine, show up in IE fine as well.

2) Thanks for the Microangelo suggestion but I'm not trying to create icons. I just want my animated avatars to wake up and become animated again.

Microangelo is more than creating icons - it is a complete icon animation studio and desktop controller for same.

if your using IE just make sure you have 'play animation' selected in your advanced options.

I installed Microangelo but I have no clue what to do with it (yes, I could very well be a dumba$$). I can't even open the animated avatars within the program.

Yes, I do have Play Animations selected.

I'm using Win XP: When I open the folder with the avatars, I can scroll through them horizontally at the bottom, where none appear animated. However, when I select each one, some become animated while others do not. They were all animated when I downloaded them.
