Im a member of a few DVD message boards and I would like to make my avatar to be a gif animation from a particular movie. Here are a few examples of what im talking about:

oyster.gif
caruso.gif

Obviously, I have to capture the frames of the animation I want, and thats basically where im stuck at the moment. Ive been ghetto capturing frames by getting to a scene I want in a DVD with Power DVD and just hitting "C" as fast as I can. Needless to say it doesnt work that well. Whats a good program that can capture a series of frames from a DVD and store them as .jpeg or someting.

Once I get the frames I can just string em together with ImageReady im sure. Thanks in advance.

in powerdvd you can step through frame by frame with "T", I think...or the ||> key

so, find the scene, capture, step through 10 frames or whatever, capture, repeat

then use a gif animator (imageready, microsoft gif animator, etc)

might need to batch convert the .bmp files to gif first

I can think of virtualdub for extracting and editing individual frames. As for animating them I normally use Animation Shop (that comes with Paint Shop Pro ver 7 or maybe later).
