I was thinking about this the other day. Eventually all sorts of contamination makes its way into food and we don't even know it. Its likely we've eaten all of the above and then some!

Its simply the knowledge of it that makes is unappealing.

One interesting contamination issue they tracked down was that there are a lot of roach parts in chocolate, like candy bars. Roaches are in the shellfish/seafood family (I think shrimp-related), so people have been reacting to chocolate because it contains roach parts which are in that allergen group. There's an average of 8 insect parts per chocolate bar:

But:

“To avoid [insects in your food], it’s almost impossible,” said Teich. ”You probably would have to stop eating completely.”

The only bugs I've knowingly eaten were chocolate covered ants ... tasted like honey.

Actually didn't know what the were when I tried them ... found out and despite the fact they didn't taste bad at all I didn't eat any more!

Edit: I suppose that means I didn't actually KNOWINGLY eat them after all!

I remember hearing somewhere that a large number of pop (soda) cans are contaminated with mouse and rat urine. Just from sitting in warehouses.

Still better than the old days, or in third world countries where food is infected with parasites. That's why people used to cook the shit out of pork. My mom still does that.

I would suspect that many canned items have been contaminated by various varmints over the years. My cousin interned back in the late 1980s for Cargill at a flour packing plant. Hundreds if not thousands of mice get bought in with the millions of pounds of rice, grains & wheat shipments. They even had special mechanisms that swirled the flour in big burlap covered boxes at high speeds to separate the animal parts and remove them from the milled flour.

There were bits and pieces of rat fur, skin, legs, skulls etc., inside. Very common, yet we dont think about this side of our food.

Nothing in the list strikes my fancy. Poll needs more options. I've never been anywhere where the menu only had 3 items to choose from.
