"BRIDGEPORT -- About a dozen right-wing Christians, carrying placards and yelling "Islam is a lie," angrily confronted worshippers outside a Fairfield Avenue mosque Friday."

""Jesus hates Muslims," they screamed at worshippers arriving at the Masjid An-Noor mosque to prepare for the holy week of Ramadan. One protester shoved a placard at a group of young children leaving the mosque. "Murderers," he shouted."

These people are absolute assholes as far as I'm concerned. This is where the "us vs them" crap that Rove and Cheney pushed so hard leads. I hope they are proud.

I like how they stayed only an hour and then left, like they had better things to do. If it was so important that they came from Dallas to protest, why not stay longer?

people like that is one reason why I left TX. and there are a lot of them in TX.

They are proud, because it's a tool that got them power.

These people are idiots. A line I've heard recently from the religious right is 'Islam isn't a valid religion, it's a cult and should not be given the rights of a religion'.

The Mosque is one of the best things we can do AGAINST the 9/11 attackers, who were trying to get the US to attack Muslims and create hate between the US and Muslims.

They're doing just what Al Queda wants.

Saw this one yesterday

Dove World Outreach Center To Commemorate 9/11 By Burning Korans
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/28/dove-world-outreach-cente_n_662450.html

*The goal of these and other protests are to give Muslims an opportunity to convert," said the church's pastor, Terry Jones.*

lol, I mean come on

The Religion of Peace strikes again.

Let me know when they start blowing up mosques or murdering Muslims and telling them to leave or else.

Completely idiotic, but at least it was entirely nonviolent.

This is what you get when you decide to base your entire worldview on something that is inherently irrational. And it certainly doesn't help when your leaders do the best they can to further increase tensions.

What these people did was wrong. But to say the mosque is an answer is delusional. You can't blame muslims as a whole for what Bin Laden and his gang did. But its a slap in the face to this nation and country to build a mosque in ground zero. Its like having someone come into your house rape and murder your wife and kids. Then burn the house to the ground. 24 months later the cousins of those same people buy the property and build a playground on it. Its disgraceful, it really is.

No, it is not. These people had absolutely nothing to fucking do with the attack. Are you really that dense? Why should the people who live here be punished for what people from another country chose to do?

Unless you are alleging some kind of direct ties between the people who are building/running the mosque and terrorism, I don't see how you can hold the position you do.

Explain to me how its a slap in the face to this country. Are any of the people even related to the terrorists? who attacked? If they are, is there any evidence whatsoever that they supported it?

Allowing these people to practice their religion freely and openly is living up to the highest ideals of this country. Just like I am an atheist and want to be left the hell alone, these people deserve the same right. Do you honestly think no muslims were victims in 9/11 ?

Your willingness to say that these people are basically equivalent to terrorist propaganda tools is disgusting.

You are making a false connection between terrorists and ordinary people. I don't really see why you insist on doing so.

a good sheikh said at on of our sermons a couple of years back, the only way for us muslims to win wherever we struggle (iraq, afghanistan, palestine, etc) is to not turn ourselves to hate the US or any country/religion but to turn ourselves back to god through prayer/spiritual commitment etc

this guy was a great speaker, i hope his message actually got through to people...

So if a christian bombs an area there can be no churches in that area or surrounding areas afterward?

Muslims aren't ordinary people. They're following an archaic religion from the stone ages and deep down inside they all want to kill infidels.

Being a muslim and following the koran isn't like picking and choosing what you eat in a cafeteria. It's all or none. You tell me you are a muslim? I also assume you want me to die.

If a christian bombs a skyscraper in a land that is mostly muslim and kills 3000 people in the name of Jesus, I doubt anybody would want a church in the area. It's bad taste no matter how you frame it. But you probably won't have christians bombing big buildings in the name of Christ UNTIL that mosque is built.

I have a strong gut feeling that if that mosque gets built, someone will fly a plane into it. Tit for tat.

What do you expect as a reply to this? I think all religion that is taken literally is archaic. Did it ever occur to you that the muslims in this country do not interpret their religion in the same way that the terrorists do?

The people who organized the attacks are not the ones building the mosque. Unless you have some kind of proof that the people involved are sympathizers, I think you are just flat out wrong.

Frustration and anger is understandable and it will only grow. Once Muslim build their victory monument at WTC, believe me, there is no turning back.
