An Angry Birds movie is slated for a Summer 2016 release

Rovio said on Tuesday that Despicable Me producer John Cohen has signed on as the producer of an Angry Birds 3D CG-animated feature film slated to hit theaters in Summer 2016. I certainly don't expect Angry Birds to be as relevant in 2016, but I'm surprised it's still relevant now so what do I know.

All I know is that Rovio has struck fucking gold and marketed the shit out of it. There's angry bird everything. Brilliant business move... grab all the money before your time is up.

i don't even understand that comment. how is it sinking lower? movies based on video games is not a new concept. at least this one will have an original story since the game has no story.

but this is atot afterall, where everyone hates everything that is popular.

Why can't someone make an Elder Scroll's movie, or better yet, Half-Life?

God damn.

Because nobody will ever like it. It won't be done well enough to appease fans of the game, and it won't be the rehashed crap that the masses enjoy so it'll be a movie for nobody.

If they were to make a big budget Half Life movie, would you follow the exact same characters? I would think so because that's part of the appeal, so would Gordon ever talk? He never talked in the game and that has also been part of the experience as it's easier to lose yourself in the character if they're not putting words in "your" mouth. So if he does talk then it'll never feel right and the gamers won't like it. If he doesn't it'll be a really odd movie character that won't work in modern cinema, which would lead to a commercial flop.

The Elder Scrolls has a better chance because there's no central character they HAVE to include, so they can just take the lore and go nuts. But then it'd just be nother fantasy movie but may happen to use some of the words from the video game. You'll be pressed to make it as epic as LOTR without as large of a following that'll see it just by recognition of the name alone. It'd be a very expensive movie for a video game adaptation. I don't see any studio taking that risk anymore given how safe they're playing it anymore.

This. Rovio doesn't think they have some Oscar winning Angry Birds movie, they just want to print more money. I don't blame them one bit.

This, is anyone going to give a fuck about Angry Birds in 4 years? Seems like an expensive gamble.

LOL, you don't understand how pathetic it is? It's a movie based on a stupid, simpleton game where you fling birds at pigs....that is damn right low as it doesn't deserve to be turned into a movie (just a money grab from Rovio). Do you not see the difference between making a movie based on Resident Evil and making a movie based on Angry Birds? It's asinine.

an angry birds movie is going to be a childrens pixar-like flick with cool graphics and animation. it's not going to compete for oscars. the fact that this bothers adults on this forum is what is pathetic here.

As stupid as this is, I gotta hand it to the Angry Birds creators for coming up with it. Extremely simple in concept and it's turned into a gigantic franchise. Those dudes probably have more money than God at this point.
