the band themselves, rolling stone magazine, and taking back sunday all proclaimed Angels and Airwaves as the next big band that redefined the rock genre and were to become the next band to stand with the likes of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.
after listening to the cd, i refuse to classify them as a great act. they hold too much of a 'slow blink-182' feel, albiet with better lyrics. too me, if it would have been Boxcar Racer taken to the next level, they would have had a great chance of being one of the best rock bands of this decade. Boxcar Racer was an awesome side-project.
i think the cd is good on its own right, but it just doesn't have that distinct edge to put it next to the greats. not to mention its lacking a lot of the umph that the great bands of previous decades had. altogether, they almost remind me of 30 Seconds to Mars when factoring in that the first 30STM cd had a very spacey feel, but the lyrics pushed the spaceyness. the Angels and Airwaves cd has a spacey feel without space-age lyrics.
summarized cd review:
3/5
good cd on its own if this is the style the band wishes to achieve... doesn't live up to hype though, but leaves promise of a better sophomore album.
