angels and airwaves

the band themselves, rolling stone magazine, and taking back sunday all proclaimed Angels and Airwaves as the next big band that redefined the rock genre and were to become the next band to stand with the likes of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.

after listening to the cd, i refuse to classify them as a great act. they hold too much of a 'slow blink-182' feel, albiet with better lyrics. too me, if it would have been Boxcar Racer taken to the next level, they would have had a great chance of being one of the best rock bands of this decade. Boxcar Racer was an awesome side-project.

i think the cd is good on its own right, but it just doesn't have that distinct edge to put it next to the greats. not to mention its lacking a lot of the umph that the great bands of previous decades had. altogether, they almost remind me of 30 Seconds to Mars when factoring in that the first 30STM cd had a very spacey feel, but the lyrics pushed the spaceyness. the Angels and Airwaves cd has a spacey feel without space-age lyrics.

summarized cd review:
3/5
good cd on its own if this is the style the band wishes to achieve... doesn't live up to hype though, but leaves promise of a better sophomore album.

you actually thought they were gonna be teh next big band? i could have told you a year ago that Angel and Airwaves would have been just Blink 182 matured. To put it plain and simple, Angels and Airwaves will never become a status of great music.

One decent song. Really not impressed at all. One of the songs is really terrible. I can't even listen to it without cringing.

Blink-182 is a lot better, and that's a shame.

I like three of the songs, not a ton, but they're OK. I think they'll be pretty popular but I don't think the music or lyrics is anything great.

i didn't believe they would be, but i thought the music would be closer to the hype than it was. when bands self hype themselves, its too fishy to even believe, but i hoped for better considering Boxcar Racer was fvckin awesome.

which blink? old blink, or most recent blink? the pop-punk style is annoying as all hell, BUT the blink that was heard before they split was quite good. the music that was around the style of 'Stay Together for the Kids' was some of their best stuff and proved they had matured. i wouldn't even consider A&A to be a matured Blink, considering its only Tom... Mark and Travis are in Plus-44 with that one girl from one of those all-girl 'punk' bands. they are goin for a similar area of tech-rock, probably going to have a spacey sound too.

its not a fun album, its more of a third eye blind album

the one where you listen to by yourself headphones on, or driving by yourself

Punk Blink actually turned me away from Punk. How annoying.

I'm actually listening to the album again right now trying to figure out what the other 2 good songs might be. Adventure is the only one so far.....

they weren't punk, they were pop-punk. if you want a taste of true punk (sounds like you wont like it), take a sample of the Ramones.

I saw them live at the weenie roast and it was kinda pathetic. The guy kept going on about how we were all making history and doing something special and making an impact...blah blah blah. I doubt I was alone in thinking "wtf is this idiot talking about, just shut the hell up and play." They put on a mediocre show and completely failed at getting the crowd to join in with them and all their bs. After that I no longer had any interest in their cd.

I still like the Ramones . You gotta admit though that everything and anything punk used to include Blink. I'm sick of Green Day too...

Maybe it's just because they got overplayed.

blink-182 matured is a terrible idea. Blink was only good because they were so immature.

the "cd" has been "out" since april. i was thoroughly unimpressed then and still am. tom delonge cannot be taken seriously. he tries, but we all know him as that retard from blink-182. this album is just boxcar racer 2.0.

I saw them last night in chicago...and it was a surprisingly good show... They focused a lot on the war, and it turns out many of their songs are about dealing with things in times like we are in. Kinda lame, but I guess Tom's brother is in Iraq, and that was sorta the inspiration...I am a fan of the CD, even though I absolutely hate Toms whiny voice..but I guess to me, the music is good enough to justify being lsitened to 😛

I caught them on Letterman the other night. Terrible. Horrible. What's up with the U2-ish intro? Why does he have to whine so much when he "sings?" Just bad.

I did not like Blink 182, but I would rather listen to Blink.

as far as the whining goes....thats what he sounds like....when he talks, he is just as whiny...😛

exactly. When your pure fan base was prepubescent teens, that is going to be hard thing to shake off, especially if you get to deep in it. I remember the old Blur joke of the early 90's. What is 40 ft long, has no pubes, and screams dead loud? The front row of a Blur concert! Lucky for Blur, they were good enough to reinvent themselves before getting in too deep. Tom, on the other, there is just no escaping it for him.

it was really weird seeing him at the show...he was....how do i say it....serious. you could tell that he really has changed as a person, and believes in this band strongly...however unless you see that in him personally, im sure everyone will simply assume hes still immature

more like boxcar v0.2b
boxcar was actually good and more inline with alt-rock.

what happens when a guy who can't sing more than two notes, write a melody, or play his instrument tries to make an album without the only two remotely talented members of his old bands, and gets super pretentious to boot? angels and airwaves.

the sheer presence of Travis made blink easier to listen to and boxcar insanely awesome. thus, i wonder how plus-44 will end...

while i'm not going to go as far as to rag angels and airwaves that hard..

It does have an air of being pretentious. It's much more full of itself then it should be me thinks.
