Why didn't they just somehow choose a photographer to take the pics, and have the guy sign a contract that he'd have to give a % of his earnings (say 50%) to charity? Somebody was going to get them (and did), so why not help out and just let a guy take em and help out for a good cause?

Apparently People magazine paid $15 million for them.

money they are being paid is going to charity. it's good.
