They didn't include the kindle fire HD, obviously since it just came out. Strange how they didn't include the nexus 7 in that though, it's been out for a while.

In any case, looks like Android tablets is following the same trajectory as Android phones, won't be surprised if Android has majority of the market share in a year or two. That's some really explosive growth.

Kindle sold at least 5 million units, if not more.
Nexus 7 hasn't sold anywhere near that amount.

Why? It's still Android. Every Android device sold increases the install base, which in turn provides more incentive for developers to produce content.

Rovio doesn't need to redevelop Angry Birds to make it compatible with a Kindle Fire HD. The same APK that you download from Google Play is the same APK you download from Amazon's App Store.

Why?

Unless Amazon actually forks their version to the extend that apps aren't cross-compatible, there's no reason to count them separately.

I don't even care about any tablet pissing match, but I don't get the logic of some people trying to stump for one 'team' over the other.

This is not about stumping for one team over the other.
Ask anybody on this forum if I'm an iOS fan or if I own any iOS products, they will tell you otherwise.

Not sure how you could see it as setting up for a pissing match given I'm on the Android team to begin with.

Yeah. everywhere I see a tablet being carried, I see the iPad. If this is so true, I'd see 50/50 everywhere I go. Unless you're telling me all the iPad users go to Starbucks while all Android users leave their tablets strictly at home only.

I doubt that 25% of all US adults own a tablet.
Their numbers cited doesn't seem to instill much confidence.

Not sure what message you're trying to convey there. You can't dispute that iPad is the best tablet on the market. It is bulkier/heavier than 7" tablets, but the screen estate and better legibility certainly makes up for it and them some. Hardware-wise, it is the best, by far.

Android devices (esp. Nexus 7 and Kindle) are combating it on prices and additional features as well as more open-natured OS.

Especially the latter (OS' versatility) is what made me decide on Nexus 7. If it was purely a matter of hardware, I would stay with iPad. Prior to iPad, I was not a fan of Apple's products nor its business tactics. I still remember the day I bought Mac-mini - the first ever Apple product I bought: I returned it the same day when it tried to force me to register. Before/after that incident I never touched anything from Apple - until iPad came. There was nothing quite like it on Windows/Linux world. (Let's forget Microsoft's attempts for now - such as PocketPC, XP Tablet Edition, etc.) The iPad was the first product from Apple that I could justify getting it. (and likely the last, now that there are alternatives)

It was the iOS, or more specifically iTunes, that abhorred me and made me desire to run away from iPad when a suitable alternative appears. But for those who are oblivious to the "Apple tax" and do not mind spending extra for apps/services you should not have to pay for (however stupid that is to you and me), iPad is a truly a fantastic device. And nothing beats its hardware. You can't really say that about most other Apple products.

I think he's more insulting the type of owner for Apple products. I get your points too, but I have to agree it is EXTREMELY comical to watch some idiot at a concert with a iPad held up over their head videoing it... It's just begging for it to be stolen or smashed and they look like morons.

That applies to ANYONE holding up giant tablets to take video/pictures in public not just the iPad. Get a camera or use something smaller out in public. I've seen this in person /w iPads but nothing else... so far. Just personal experience. I also watched one get smashed when they got bumped in a concert and it started getting smashed as it got kicked around on accident.

In a trivial manner and on numerous fronts that isn't close to true. If you take a very narrowly defined set of parameters and use that as your criteria you may come to that conclusion. Mainly, high resolution display and GPU power. The CPU and OS is just plain terrible for any real sort of business use(open up a decent size .pdf on the new iPad and then the Nexus7, it is comical how bad the latest and greatest iPad is compared to the budget competition). Want a keyboard dock with your tablet? Unless you are talking about a half @ss accessory, you are SOL if you want an iPad. How about an industry standard HDMI out option? Nope, pay a bit more Apple tax instead of using the cable already in the conference room. Need to bring a couple hundred GBs of files with you on an iPad? Forget it.

All the points I brought up the Transformers kill the iPad on. None of those may be a concern to you, but to imply that the iPad doesn't have some rather shockingly huge downfalls as a tablet is being foolish to put it mildly. There are many other approaches you can take to how the iPad is very, very far removed from being hands down the best in the tablet space, in many instances it is closer to worthless- it depends on what you are doing with it.

Depends where you live. Where I'm at I see an equal ratio of iPads and non iPads. And yes, most iPads are in Starbucks .

It's pretty hard to believe half of all tablets are android tablets. The iPad just dominates the tablet space. Not really surprising seeing just how terrible the Galaxy Tab is. It wasn't until the Transformer Prime that something came close to the iPad. The Kindle Fire sold well cause it was cheap. It was just as bad as the Gtab.

The Nexus 7 and TF Prime are probably the closes things you can get to the quality of the ipad. We will have to see how the new Kindle HD's perform.

I'm speaking independant of the OS here. Just hardware. I haven't had the pleasure of using a TF700 yet so I can't comment on the display.
