so im in a coffee ship in lafayette, ca with three verizon motorola phones and for some reason this is the only city in the bay area you cant get verizon lte in. so i want to use the wifi in the coffee shop. all three of the phones work fine for a little while but after about 20 minutes the wifi on the phones totally stops working (it would later start up again, say 15 minutes later on all the phones before eventually crapping out again). at first i thought that meant the wifi in the coffee shop wasnt working but the person i was with had a macbook and her macbook got wifi the entire time that my phones werent. what happened? was it heat (its been over 100 degrees here. also ive noticed that last few days when i tether that the cellular internet gets really slow after 20 minutes)? was i being knocked off the coffee shop network by another customer logging on? do motorola phones have a known bad wifi issue? (i rarely use wifi but ive never before noticed any problems). were the phones trying unsuccessfully use the cellular connection? was there an incompatibility of the phones with the coffee shop router? it was really irritatin' and it was makin' peeps say the problim was wif me....

With all three devices having issues at the same time, I think it's safe to say that there was something happening with the wifi in the coffee shop. The fact that the Macbook didn't disconnect means the system didn't go down completely, but that doesn't mean there weren't any issues at the time.

You may have simply experienced a timed Wi-Fi service. That is increasingly common in restaurants and food places. Purpose is to dump "campers" and let more users get email, etc. 20 minutes is about par for the course at such places. The limit could also relate to MB/GB accessed.

Next time you are in that coffee shop, ask the manager about limits.

Agreed, since it's across 3 devices I'm more inclined to believe it was an issue with the coffee shop.

I have lots of issues with wifi on Android but find myself turning on and then off airplane mode to fix it. That however does not appear to be your issue.
