Well...how about backups (titanium backup). How about wireless tethering without a fee (barnacle). There are a few perks to rooting.

I didn't say there weren't any perks to rooting/mods, I just mean that my phone does everything I need without having to resort to that. :)

Give in to the dark side, root it and THEN find a use the the extra features. ;)

haha! I'll admit, I have been tempted to do just that. :D

I just don't have the time at the moment to research the proper method for rooting Incredible w/ Froyo and keeping Sense UI. I'm wary of messing with the radio firmware, etc. at this time all I would probably do is try to get root.

While my 3500mAh Seidio battery upgrade has done wonders for keeping me up during heavy use on the road, I wouldn't complain if I could increase it to 2 days or more with SetCPU.

It's stupidly easy.

http://unrevoked.com/

Works with 2.2 Froyo flawlessly. Just used this not a week ago, had a rooted DINC within 20 minutes of first turning it on.

Awesome, I was under the impression that I was screwed since I accepted the OTA 2.2 VZW update.

So, if I do Unrevoked, do I have to worry about losing Sense UI? Do I need to do any backup? Also, should I undo the root if I decide to accept an OTA in the future?

Thanks!

You lose absolutely NOTHING by rooting (except a warranty :p) When you begin installing custom roms and such is when you might lose something like your Sense UI.

If worse comes to worse and you need to warranty the phone, just know that it is very hard to brick a phone if you can follow instructions. Case in point: my DINC is currently rebooting every time the GPS tries to run. I have since removed CyanogenMOD 6, removed root, turn s-on, and re-flashed stock 2.1, then applied the OTA Froyo update. It's still having problems, so off to Verizon it goes, looking as if it's never been rooted. (I will note that I didn't CAUSE these problems - it's been this way since I bought it :p)

Anyway, it's super easy, pretty low-risk if you can follow instructions, and the benefits are, imo, substantial enough to make it worth it.

EDIT: Rooted!! Also bought SetCPU and just need a good "max-battery" config now. Thanks again!
