Family has Amazon prime that we share. Don't worry they allow it. :) I have both Chromecast, Apple TV, PS4 & had Nexus Player. I gave up on the Nexus Player. Seems like Google has too. For me and my family's purposes, it wasn't much better than the Chromecast. However, there is no way to watch Amazon prime off either device.

Funny how off the iPad there's Amazon Prime and works beautifully off AirPlay with Apple TV. Amazon has submitted their Prime app to Apple, but has yet to be released. No surprize, it's karma getting Amazon back for pulling AppleTV off their store.

Amazon Prime off the PS4 is also nice and argueably the nicest since it is as speedy as the Fire TV.

Point being... it Prime sucks off Android, but Amazon hasn't been playing nice either. The good news.. Fire TV sticks don't cost much especially when they are on sale and they function fine. Luckily other devices that you may have PS4, iPad+AppleTV work even better.

The problem with Amazon is that they normally have to fail to play ball. Android didn't get Prime streaming until the Fire Phone failed.
