Saw this on Verge. Interesting, looks like Amazon got the fireTV out just in time for more competition from Google.

It looks like they're not trying to do what they did with GoogleTV which is a gold thing.

It's show me time for Google. After Google TV and Chromecast, I don't have much faith in Google to get it right.

What's wrong with Chromecast? For the price it does what it needs to do.

It's fine now for the price since Google has opened it back up. It's good poor man's Apple TV. But for about 6 months after the initial release, it was nothing more than glorified Netflix and YouTube viewer.

Looking forward to see if they evolved since the GoogleTV platform. I know its too soon and we don't have much info but I hope it can play content over a home network. It would be nice if you could use the Plex or XBMC Android apps to play personal content.

Not to get this thread off course but I've been following this thread on the XBMC forums with the new Amazon FireTV box and their experience playing local content. I'm also hoping it can handle 1080p content with DTS-HD. http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=191109 The Amazon FireTV isn't doing so well with 1080p content right now..

Watching and waiting. I think the FireTV has almost everything I need. There's only one other thing I'm looking for in a box. The first one to deliver everything the FireTV can do with an ATSC tuner will be the next one to get my money.

Count me as one that is excited if they have the full Play Store available (which I am hopeful since they refer to it as Android TV).

If it has access to the Play Store then the only thing it will be missing for me is Amazon Instant Video. I will just start renting my movies from Google if Amazon doesn't want my Google money.
