I would like to get a android tablet for school to take notes. Already have a laptop. Will use tablet on days when i do not bring my laptop to take notes.

I would like a stylus preferably and for it to not be too expensive.

The Hp Slate 7 Extreme/Tegra Note 7 and nVidia Shield do come with a stylus and the accompanying stylus technology seems rather useful.

I could get a tablet like the nexus 7 and get a separate stylus, but the stylus would not be as good.

The shield looks awesome and I would prefer a screen size over 7 inches. But I can get the HP Slate 7 Extreme locally for around 150USD which is half the price of the shield on Amazon.

Is there any compelling reason to consider the shield over the Hp slate? I would not really utilize the game streaming function.

Any chance that the price would drop? Its quite new right? Or are there other alternatives? Samsung Tablets are way too expensive

The main thing the Shield has for your use is size. Whether that's worth it depends on how well you can make 7" work for you.

The other thing you should probably consider is the Nexus tablet rumored for next month, if you can wait that long... It's rumored to be built on the 64-bit "Denver" version of K1, and should therefore have the same pen support.

If you want to take a note, then get a Note.

A refurb or used Note 8 should be less than $200 by now, which is right around your budget. It will be perfect for your intended usage.

I have an nVidia Shield right now that I'm actually trying to return, but I bought it off eBay (brand new) and the seller isn't co-operating on a return even though I've had it for less than a week.

Its super fast, but the software is buggy as all out. I can't believe nvidia would ship Android in this state. I've factory reset it like 3 times and I'm still experiencing random screen artifacts and crashing which I feel is a damaged product. (I mean every single time you use it you get artifacts and problems)

Probably just a lemon, but still, I paid a lot of money and at this point Paypal is deciding if I can return it or not which worries me.
