I'm tempted to get a windows phone, but I really like having root on my android. Is there anything like that to get rid of bloatware on a windows phone?

You can remove any of the carrier apps the same way you remove any apps. The only apps you can't remove are the core system apps. Meaning any bloatware is removable in about a minute, even for the worse offender (usually Verizon). But even the pre-installed carrier apps don't really slow slow down or drain the device with severe wakelocks or apps running in the background which sometimes is the case on Android - at least I haven't really ever seen it happen on any of the phones I've owned.

You can't root Windows Phone to do other modification like you would on Android, though. There are no root apps and effectively no custom ROM scene, either.

Thanks. I was afraid windows phones would be like windows computers and full of bloatware. My main concern was taking up too much internal storage space with programs I dont use.

If you get a phone with microSD, you can also install apps to microSD without having to do anything except confirm that you want to use it after putting in the card. KitKat made similar functionality on Android tougher, though thankfully Google seems to have backtracked a bit on that with Lollipop and M.

Windows Phone is more like iOS than Android: simpler, but also fewer things to tinker with for the power user.

Everything is removable on Windows Phone -- as Chrono says -- which was a nice surprise for me as well.
