Android Pocket TV Kickstarter Fully Funded: GoogleTV Done Right?

That doesn't sound like it's enough to run full HD video, which sounds like a huge misstep from such a device.

If it has the proper GPU/H.264 decoder, it will do 1080p decode just fine, even with a single-core CPU. I know, cuz I tried with an el cheapo single-core Chinese tablet, and it played double-digit Mbps 1080p H.264 just fine. It was slow as hell for web surfing though.

Been waiting for a device like this. I don't want to buy a Smart TV, I want to buy a portable device that makes any TV a Smart TV.

This thing looks amazing for travel. You don't have to worry about cables or any of that. Just plug it in to the hotel TV and use your iOS/Android device to control it. Would be great if you have kids since you can just load it up with their favorite shows and not have to worry about the hotel having kids channels or good enough WiFi to stream something.

Many hotel TVs don't support third party devices. eg. Some LCDs in hotels won't even accept a 3rd party HDMI device.

I've never stayed in a hotel where the TV didn't let me plug my laptop or tablet in. Is this a European thing or something?
Most of my experience is with North American hotels (Canada/US). It seems to me the more expensive the hotel, the more likely their display devices are semi-custom and 3rd party devices won't work. ie. 4-star and 5-star.

That said, some of the newer business suites have dedicated desktop or wall-mounted HDMI ports.

Plus, for a lot of the hotels now the TVs are mounted on the wall, which means there is no space for a perpendicular dongle. However, that can be solved with an extension cable.

Well that explains why I haven't seen any like that. 🙂
