I'm looking to upgrade my 14 year old daughter's phone. She's gotten great grades all year and want to reward her. She currently has an iphone 3g hand me down that I jailbroke and have running on the gophone network. She doesn't want my wife's old 3gs (not too much of an upgrade anyway) and is really interested in androids, especially after seeing my S3.

I'm still new on the android side of things after having iphones for a few years, so could anyone suggest any good gophone android phones? I'm trying to keep it under 100 if that helps, and I'm not against used phones either (heck, mine have been used as well).

honestly, I would get her an iPhone 4. iOS is just simpler and she doesn't have to alter her use of iTunes at all. my $0.02. Most women I know prefer iPhones - only downside was the smallish screen. Obviously, this doesn't mean anything. As far as costs, I actually sold my mom's old iPhone 4 here for like $120 with accessories. GL

Thanks for the tip, however she is kinda anti-itunes since I've had to reformat the computer she shares with her brothers which has forced her to wipe to resync. She's got her heart set on a droid based phone so if I can I'd like to try to go that route but if not, well, 'dems the breaks :p

Used Galaxy S2s should be in your price range. An AT&T regular S2, an S2 Skyrocket or an unlocked T-Mobile S2 with a radio flash will work on AT&T HSPA.

Not that I've seen: they're still more like $200 than $100. So is the iPhone 4, btw!

The most up-to-date $100 phone would be the Captivate flashed to CM10/10.1. But I'd probably consider the Atrix even though it's stuck on GB - more RAM, less wonky GPS, and that second CPU core.

"Best dad ever" choice would be to find a working but messed-up-glass Galaxy S3 and repair it with the advice in this thread:

Is a S3 with cracked screen cheaper than a working S2 or iPhone 4? I don't think Ive seen that (on eBay).

Broken-glass phones can't sell on Swappa and on eBay you're competing with the folks who fix and resell.

I've seen 'em for $150 on Craigslist, which is where I'd look. NYC has a lot of buyers for these, but maybe OP's area doesn't.

Anyone know if the Fusion 2 is as bad as some of the reviews I'm reading? Or is it the case that those that went bad were a vocal group?

Even if it works perfectly, it's an Android version of the iPhone 3GS. Low-res, slow CPU... just say no.
