Blehhhhhhhh, I'm so planning on going droid x tomorrow, but I already have a tmo account and the extra cost of VZW is a turnoff a little (even though I like their coverage a ton better)....I also love the HW of the HD2, and now with the possibility of android on it??!? blehhhh

Read that thread carefully and DON'T POST any questions that you haven't taken the time to look for in the thread first.

The Dev's are amazing, but you need to do your homework, they're pretty harsh on noobs and reposts (otherwise the threads over there become unmanageable and useless.

I'm waiting a bit longer, good luck and let us know how it goes.

I've been installing them as the updates come out. Its cool, but not really usable yet. Also, the latest updates won't boot for some odd reason.

noob question - new to droid, just ordered the X and it's not here yet... I thought 2.2 when fully ready would be pushed like a "windows update" kind of thing. It requires manual installation?

Yes, it will be automatically pushed by Verizon once its ready. The HD2 is a Windows Mobile phone, hence the in depth manual process to get an Android build running.

Theres a latest Froyo 2.2 version and the HTC Sense 2.1 version out and I have tried both on my HD2.
All I can say with the latest Froyo 2.2 version is wow wow wow.
http://pocketnow.com/how-to/how-to-run-android-22-froyo-on-your-htc-hd2-video
I tried the sense 2.1 version and it was ok but running kinda sluggish but the Froyo 2.2 version just blew me away.
I've been playing around with it for about 2 hrs and I can honestly say I can use it on a regular basis.
- No GPS, bluetooth, camcorder and little things but I only miss the GPS.
- The sound is low. Compared to the highest volumm on the HD2, being a 10, I'd say 7-8 at its highest.
- Everything is fairly smooth even though I'm using my class 2 16gb card. I have an 8gb class 6 coming. Everything is running off the sd card so for a class 2, its truely is impressive.
- Phone works, data..3G works, wifi works, marketplace works, camera yes. All the basic functions for regular usuage works.
- I heard the battery drains quicker but I need to go through a whole day to find that out. I have 2 extra batteries anyway.

I can see in a month's time, they will have a stable version out with everything 99% running with a bootable rom which will make everything faster.
Surely this will increase the HD2 values ?? These can be had for less than $250 on craigslist.

Anyone with a HD2 seriously need to try the Froyo 2.2 version out.
You won't have to mess with anything on your current sd card.
I have the latest rom update from T-mobile.

1. Download the files (torrent link)
2. Extract the files to your storage card
- Basically place in the Androis folder onto the root of your SD card.
(/sdcard/Android)
3. Run CLRCAD.exe to get the audio to work.(press it a couple of times. It won't do anything. I press it a few times to make sure that it ran)
4. Run Haret.exe and wait three minutes
5. To get back to Windows Mobile, soft reset

I've been running the Darkstone Froyo build since last night. Definitely by far the best Android ROM for the HD2 yet. It still has some kinks to work out, but its at a point where its actually usable, which is a big step.

Yup, its the version I'm using.
If they can just get the GPS to work as I won't miss anything else.
Charging with Android running is very very slow.
I rebooted back to window and it charges about 5x as fast.
I never thought the day where I see a usable Android running on the HD2.
Just the other day, I was drolling over a friend who just got a Vibrant for T-Mobile. Don't need to drool anymore.

Yes, GPS is the last big missing feature. There's still some smaller stuff - ambient light sensor still doesn't work, for instance, notification LED doesn't work properly, charging is very slow as you mentioned, but its come a long way. A huge difference I noticed with this build was bettery life - it nearly tripled from Darkstone's Sense build.

Bump, I have dual boot on mine, still don't have navigation, but getting closer

Navigation works now.
I'm using the Darkstone froyo build.
Basically there is another "system.ext2" that is somewhere that you need to replace the one that came with Darkstone.
GPS is working flawless for me.

So the thing is Darkstone was working for me just fine with multiple reboot.
Once I replaced the new system.ext2, the reboot game me the green boot of death.
So then I got my class 6 micro in and I decided to do a clean one.
Booted it up the first time and the new file and it worked fine.
I went outside, got the GPS signal and now it gets the signal really fast.
Only slight problem for me now is sometimes I reboot it to the green screen of death but then I try it again and it would boot into Android just fine. My rate is now like 50%.

Everything works great except.
- Call voices are robotic(I have the t-mobile rom version). People said if I use a different ROM, the voice problem will be solve. I plan to try the Miri.
- Volumm are still too low but its not a big deal.
- Battery drains real fast but I have 3 batteries :)
All the other problems do not affect me.
I just need to install a different ROM and I can honestly say I can use this on a 99% daily basis.

lemme ask this then. If someone were to switch to t-mobile, what would be the phone to get (for android) the HD2 or the vibrant?

Unfortunately, TMobile doesn't have any killer phones out there, Samsung has a bad rep as a phone manufacturer, not quite sure why, but it's enough to make me a bit wary, and the HD2 is a WinMo 6.5 device (essentially a dead end phone OS) and the Android port is really for tinkering with, not a daily use OS unless you're willing to put up with multiple issues...

Android hardware is still maturing, Droid, DriodX, Evo are the big players, and both on Sprint & Verizon for now.

There are always new phones coming out, but it's a PITA to play that game...

Vibrant, definitely. The Vibrant is superior to the HD2 in almost every way. I even would prefer the 4" screen, 4.3" to me is just a tad too big. Its also got a faster processor, and SuperAMOLED screen tech.

Vibrant without a doubt. Vibrant/ Galaxy S is the best android phone out right now. It's better than Nexus One, Evo, Droid X, Incredible, etc. It's the fastest with best gpu, best screen, and is the lightest and thinnest phone. It supports pretty much all popular video codecs out the box which is real nice compared to other android phones. Samsung Touchwiz 3.0 actually has some real nice features built in.

Samsung released this phone in over 110 different countries so it will be supported by Samsung and the mod community. It's already been rooted and the bootloader isn't locked so you should see custom roms soon.
