because it's a simple screenshot of Google Maps satellite view?

Flight control is so simple yet it looks polished and it's fun. Where are our Android equivalents? Or even Tetris? The iPhone Tetris apps look better.

Android shoudl be the more powerful OS here!

http://toucharcade.com/

I used to follow that on a daily basis. Even if not all the games are your taste, you can tell they are FAR more polished than the Android games. Makes Android look like crap. Look, you can laugh at all the FART apps or whatever, but I followed iPhone OS 2.0 when it came out, and when it did, we already had a FLOOD of awesome apps.

I know a lot of them aren't alive today, but games like Flight Control hit within a month of OS 2.0's release. Even some of the original games like Tetris, Flight Control, Zombieville, Flick Fishing were great from the start. Hell, look at Tap Tap Revenge. That was one of the first apps and it's been beautifully done. We're almost at year 2 of them all, but such a simple game has been built great from the start. Why can't we get anything even CLOSE to that on Android?

Look I'm glad that Android's doing a lot of catchup, but I don't see how they're really catching up yet. I sold my 3GS and iPod Touch by Sept 2009, so most of my app experiences were with OS 2.0. Right now, I still feel my Android device hasnt surpassed my app experiences in OS 2.0. So, with OS 4.0 on the brink of release and the iPad has really upgraded a lot of apps, and iPhone 4.0 almost out, I say Android has even MORE catching up to do because Apple's going to keep pushing the boundaries.

Android shouldn't try to catch up to what Apple has done, they should stick to doing their own thing. Android owners for the most strongly dislike Apple so they're not going to switch to an iPhone. And good luck at ever swaying an iPhone owner to jump over to the Android side. Not saying neither can't happen, they will but in very small numbers. And that's one of the beautiful things about Android, people who hate Apple will go with it regardless because of the "fuck all things Apple!" mentality. This will cause Google's market share to grow rapidly. The only people I know who have Androids are very geeky types who know what Linux is. There's a huge market untapped there.

If by "100" you mean 2.1 million in six months, yeah:

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/04/21/iphone-sales-soar-in-china/

I guess I stand corrected. But, history has proven that people like choices. Mobile OSes like Windows Phone and Android will dominate just like Symbian does now. It's inevitable. Apple's neat little world is doomed to fail and fragmentation will prevail like it has in every other industry man has ever created. lol, if Apple isn't careful they may end up at a useless percentage like their marketshare in the pc business.

This is a silly argument. I'll just say one last thing. All these people who are claiming Android will NEVER have good games, NEVER reach the marketshare of Apple, NEVER sell x amount of devices... NEVER, whatever. The bottom line is that its absurd to state things like that. The bottom line is we simply don't know. We can speculate and argue why we do or don't think things will happen. But to boldly state, without a doubt, that something will or won't happen is just stupid. Plain and simple, STUPID!

Don't be dumb.

Probably the best post of the thread...

Just so you know, every single one of my friends who has an iPhone wants a Nexus One, Incredible, or Evo now after seeing my Android phone. I'll repeat what I've said many times before: most people who are on iPhone right now are only on it because they are or were unaware of the extremely viable alternatives at time of purchase.

your friends obviously account for what 90, 95% of the iPhone owners right? You friends sound like the type that always want something new. I know some like that. And I wouldn't doubt if they ended up getting an Android handset that they'd want whatever the next "new" phone to come out. when it came out. I've used multiple Androids, and gave them all back to the owners...

You forgot to mention how Steve Jobs is shaking in his boots scared shitless. The insight from Apple haters and Android owners into the mind of Steve Jobs and Apple is absolutely astounding. Apple just had their best quarter even with the most smart phone competition they've faced to date. Android is on the radar, but beyond that I don't think Apple's losing any sleep over. I could be just as wrong as the idiots on here saying Jobs is fearing for his life due to Google though lol.

Don't be a buffoon. No one said Steve Jobs was shaking in his boots. No one said he feared for his life. No one said he was losing any sleep. If you continue to say people here are saying this, you are lying. Stick to honesty, kid. If you know what that is.

I said Apple considers them a threat. Of course they do. If you think otherwise, you are wrong. And you know you are wrong. Just because Apple is doing well doesn't mean they don't know who their threats and their competitors are. Any good business recognizes these things.

Microsoft stomps Apple in the desktop OS market - worse than Apple could dream of doing in the mobile market - but being a good business, they still consider them a threat. Just like Apple does Android.

Very likely, but Apple is currently selling ~90,000 iphones a day globally (per the 8.9 million in the last quarter) and Google said that about 50,000 Android phones are selling a day globally, so I really don't see why everyone is going on about how Apple is somehow suing HTC to try and stop Android, lol.

For starters - its 60k Android phones a day, not 50k. Secondly, "lol" all you want, anyone that isn't a mindless fanboy can recognize what Apple does - Android is a threat. Its not just Android's current sales numbers - which are already getting close - its the rate of change. Look at Android activations today vs 6 months ago, vs a year ago. It keeps increasing. That doesn't mean the iPhone is going out of business tomorrow, no one is saying that...but of course Apple is concerned, as any logical business would be.

Anybody in this thread saying Apple will NEVER fall is a damn moron. You're an even bigger moron if you'll say RIM will never fall.

RIM has been wallowing in shit products for a couple years from now. Grab a Blackberry from 2 years ago, compare with today. Practically freaking identical. If they don't grab a brain and compete damn soon, they're in trouble.

If Apple made an iPhone with a nice physical keyboard and proper enterprise functionality, RIM would be fucked. I could also see Android doing the same thing with a couple more years of polish on Android OS.

Blackberry excels because it's a utilitarian device. It does what it does well and there's no need to change the formula just for the sake of changing it. Corporations will continue to use it because their infrastructures are invested heavily in it. It's one of the same reasons Windows is so entrenched in corporate. If WinMob couldn't topple BB on its own Exchange infrastructure, what chance to other vendors have at this point?

Blackberries have succeeded this far on it's utility and invested infrastructures. However, Blackberry OS is getting so crusty and antiquated with little improvement coming in 6.0. Even business users are starting very slowly to shift away from Blackberries.

If you listen to the most recent Engadget podcast, they RIPPED on the new BB's and the 6.0 OS leak. It was pretty harsh. I think they are great, GREAT phones, but the one thing RIM and BB's have always had are the enterprise options and security. The competition is really starting to catch up on that front.

Engadget thinks that anything not iPhone is garbage. They remind me of Toms Hardware Guide, but for phones.

Actually in their last podcast, Josh T. was raving about the Incredible pretty hard and I'd say he's the most critical of Apple out of everyone. The other 2 guys though are more or less diehard Apple fanboys for sure.

Well I'm an Apple guy with a 16GB 3G iPhone but I am very likely to switch to Android when my two year contract is up in July. The new iPhone hasn't been announced yet but the lost/stolen one that showed up a few weeks ago does indicate it will be much better than the 3G or 3Gs but not, in my view, better than the HTC Evo so when my contract is up I am pretty sure I'll have an Android phone -- the Evo.

I don't understand the fanboy mentality and see no reason to stay with Apple. But, if a better phone/service comes out when my Evo/Sprint contract is up I will have no issues switching once again. Apple redefined the smart phone and did a great job, but HTC has, in my view, taken the smart phone beyond the iPhone and I think that's great for everybody. Without competition Job's could sit back and reap the profits without having to push the technology but with HTC they will have to work harder. It looks like HTC has stepped ahead of Apple for this cycle but that only means Apple will have to work harder for the next one and that's a good thing...

That's the best mentality to have, I'm not an Apple fan boy, but the iPhone does do everything I need it to, where no other phone does. If this changes in the future I'll switch phones. But as it stands my 1st gen iPhone works better for me than a brand new Android. I definitely won't be upgrading to a 4G iPhone. Perhaps in a few years I'll upgrade to a iPhone 3GS just for the speed boost.

all that number means is that there are over 3 times as many useless shitty aps for the iphone as the droid

I find it laughable when people always say...well its Quality vs. Quantity!

Well guess what? The iPhone app store beats Android in both quality and quantity by a pretty large margin. I think my next phone is gonna be the Evo, but its absolutely ludicrous for anyone to think the Android marketplace is anywhere near the quality of the Apple App store.

I'm excited to own a super smartphone soon, but its really frustrating that Android just isn't there yet. Every app on the Android, the iPhone does better. Not only that, but the comparable apps on Android are uglier. Android developers need to step it up.
