LauncherPro is still the best Launcher out there in terms of sheer speed, and it still has the basic necessary customizations.

Also, technically it's still being worked on, there have been updates on the forums

I'll probably get ADW just because I always like to have another alternative launcher at my disposal. LauncherPro is now vaporware, so I've been using Go Launcher EX, which is pretty good itself.

NFL Rivals was shit, I bought it hoping that my Kindle Fire would at least run it. NOPE. All those 1-star reviewers were right, there are a LOT of devices it just doesn't work on at all. Good thing I could get a refund! Yes, even for a dime.

Reckless Racing is fun though. Bought both versions, one for the tablet and one for the phone.

The Christmas live wallpaper is actually pretty nice too.

The only "updates" I've seen have been moderators attacking people for criticizing the developer for abandoning the project. Last update to the app was in May. Last post he made was in July explaining why his Gmail widget wasn't working.

Yeah, I bought his music app and it hasn't been touched since it was launched. He must have made enough money to not care anymore or something.

Don't feel like looking for it, but on the forums, the dev said as of last month the rewrite was 75% or so done. But yeah, it seems more or less like vaporware

Vaporware doesn't mean the app sucks, it's STILL the fastest of any launcher I've used.

Including
ADW
ADW Pro
Go
Zeam

I guess it might come out eventually, but until then I've hitched my wagon to a different app that is being actively worked on. The smoothness of LP is nice but it's too cumbersome to add/remove/rearrange homescreens and change out dock icons, which is why I've moved to Go.

ADW seems to be faster than I remember. It used to be slower and I picked GO above it, but now it seems to flow just as well. The free version was fairly limited though so I didn't use it much.

I still use LPP because it's easily the fastest and I don't change my homescreens much. Go Launcher Ex is pretty but randomly sluggish (and seems to eat enough memory that it gets auto-killed sometimes).

ADW regular either has really bad default settings and just plain stutters all the time. ADW Ex so far seems nice (I'll play with it some more to see if it'll replace LPP).

I like adw ex for the easy hide status bar gesture option.

ex has always been way smoother than regular.

hope he takes the ex modifications and applies them to the ICS launcher (which is the smoothest)

Well I don't get the point of this launcher thing at all; all it seemed to do was to remove all of my apps from the home screen and screw up my wallpaper. Um, thanks I guess?

Sidenote:
Google needs to have a way of allowing you to purchase without installing. Many things I bought with no intention of installing them.
^this

Somehow all the new 10c apps have pushed me into the zone where I have to keep rebooting or the phone thinks I have too little space to update my old apps. Argh!

Your default launcher is an app, ADW Launcher is also an app. When you first load up a new launcher it will not be configured the same way as your default launcher. But it has a lot more features and customization options. You can choose to have your app drawer display vertically or horizontally, customize your dock to have up to five icons in it, show a screen indicator on the top or bottom of the screen, add or remove homescreens as you see fit... and so on and so forth. ADW has a lot of themes as well.

Go to your homescreen, press menu, select "more," and choose "ADW Settings" to configure it. There are presets and you can customize everything at will too.

TBF the gmail widget thing is not his fault, that was Google being dipshits.

Yeah actually I knew that.

I shouldn't be so critical of him I guess. Supposedly he is still working on it, his last forum post was in October or something. It is only a $3 app I bought over a year ago. Got plenty of use out of it. And I understand why developers don't want to make promises in case they can't keep them. It's just when someone disappears for so long it's hard to take them seriously. Furthermore, you never want to get too wrapped up in hype for anything because the longer it gets drawn out, the higher your expectations, and the less likely it is they will be met.

Thanks man, that helped a lot. Sorry, I'm kind of retarded. :(

Put some themes on there, played around with the settings a bit and now I'm starting to like it.

That's one thing I like about GoLauncher- on install it can 'import' the layout of the current launcher. I don't mind starting from scratch, but a lot of people have the same reaction as Keith to a new launcher: "where the hell did everything go!?"

Launcherpro is what it is. It works and it's pretty smooth. Like you said its cheap so I'm cool with the level of support it gets.

I mainly replied because Google really pisses me off with gmail.
On the one hand they don't release a decent (or any) widget of their own, on the other hand they break everyone else's. Given that widgets are their thing it just strikes me as perverse that they would lock everyone out of making one and not bother themselves.

I know this is unrelated, but do you guys use any sort of clean-up app or something? I just feel like after installing/uninstalling and fiddling with all kinds of things I should be doing some sort of clean-up or maintenance, but maybe it's not needed on these newfangled phones?

Both LPP and ADW/Ex have Backup/Restore options, but the first initial install should only have a 'basic' layout. You have to set it up at least once. :p

I'm really liking ADW EX. I'm a longtime Launcherpro fan mainly for its widgets but ADW has so much more options. I still prefer Launcherpro for phone but ADW is better for tablet. I replaced the free ADW with the paid on my CM7 Touchpad.

yeah, I started off trying out those launchers when I first got my phone--ADW EX (paid full for that one), Go Launcher, and a few others, but kept going back to TouchWiz 4.

I'm really low maintenance. I do like the various widgets though. I've been using Fancy Widgets since nearly day one (free version), but picked up beautiful widgets yesterday, or whenever. I've always liked the HTC clock and weather widget, but I've come to like Touchwiz 4 overall.

I think stock Android looks kinda bleh. :\
