Android gmail app able to paste in hyperlinks?

I frequently copy and paste text that contains hyperlinks into emails to send to my contractors. When I try to do this on my Samsung Epic, the only thing that gets pasted is the text, not the link. It doesn't even work if I browse to gmail and do it through the browser.

Any ideas?
