How the hell can I make it take smaller photos?
Use a different camera app? Utterly idiotic.

First, why?

Second, what phone?

Third, are there no settings at all?

I love it when people say something about 'Android' without realizing that their experience is either because of their device's incapability, or their own incapability in finding the settings.

Having said that, what are you talking about?

This, it's probably in the camera app buried in the settings.

Never realized it's on screen in the Samsung camera app as I've never looked for it.

Complaining about a platform without stating their device? Utterly idiotic.

Why? Good question.
I don't want to store 1000's of 5MB pics. I want 50kb pics.

I know how to do settings. Here ya go:

I may be totally wrong, but if you touch the "standard" text, a new menu will appear and it should let you select a lower megapixel. If you touch it and nothing happens, tilt phone and change wide screen to something lower. Right now it is grey and probably will not do anything if touched. I will ask my friend as he has the same model phone.

It's worth noting that you might as well not be taking pictures at all at the resolution you want to store them at. Just to save some space because I can only assume you're unwilling to or don't know that you can tell Google Photos to free up space every now and again. Use the high quality setting, and you never have to actually worry about paying for storage.

So, umm, weren't you the one asking a few months back why people needed 32GB or 64GB on their phones? This. This is why.

I don't think you can change the resolution in Moto's camera app.

At least in the first version, they didn't allow you to.

They don't mention this ability in reviews either.

I think their thinking is that most people want to take photos at the highest resolution possible and then down-rez when needed.

Then why not just title your post, "Moto X Pure 2015 camera only takes massive 22MP pics. I only want 2MP."?

That's a limitation of the phone, according to a reply in the link below it's not changeable on that device. Blame motorola, not Android. Just use a different camera app.

That particular card is too slow for me to second, but the general idea certainly holds.

No, clicking on "standard" simply selects that option.
That is how menus work.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.
I don't use Google Photos, and do not want my photos on the cloud.
I also don't want to upload 100s of 5MB files to the cloud every time I use my camera.

I have a 128GB SD card on my phone.
I then Xfer my pics onto my 256GB SSD on my desktop, for perm. storage.
I do not want to store any pics on my phone.

Thanks Jdog, I am ditching this joke of a camera app.

I am switching to Camera ZOOM FX now.

But you do want to store absolutely garbage photos? Sure, logic checks out. Go on and do whatever you want, you've obviously already decided what you think is good enough for you.

It's wrong in this particular case, but they're your memories, not mine.

Garbage? Do you know anything about cameras?
100% of my cell photos are viewed on a monitor, tablet, or phone.
0% of my cell photos are printed or viewed on a movie theater screen.

Realistically, I need 1MP maximum, not 22MP.
Quite literally, 1/20th the resolution is all most people need.
The excess can not physically be displayed anyway.
My huge 26" desktop monitor displays just 2MP at 1920x1080.
Most pics are a fraction of the entire screen, and are viewed on an even smaller screen.

There's numerous apps that will auto sync your 'cam folder' to your backup pc folder via wireless. You can sync based on time of day, charging state, etc. It's what I do.

Does the camera still oversample if you change it to a lower resolution like 2MP? :hmm:

In any case, I almost always edit photos I plan on sharing, so I don't get why anyone who cares or knows anything about photography would choose to take 2MP shots, even if viewing on "only" a 1080p monitor. I'd rather offload pics - storing hundreds or more pics on a phone isn't something I do - and view them downscaled (or downscale manually and/or crop if needed) on the desktop.

That and you'd have to be sure you aren't going to use 4k+ monitors in the future... I'm sure there were people who felt 0.5 MP digital photos were good enough until they found themselves later moving the photos over to newer devices or finding it necessary/desirable to get prints.
