Of course he does, it might not be anything even resembling an accurate statement. But he definitely pays attention, he has to make sure everything he write takes a jab @ Apple.

No, Bat is mostly right. I find it easier to find what I am looking for on android than I do on ios. I believe its probably the search engine but I could be mistaken. If I do a generic search for a utility on android I can usually put in the function I want it to do in the search engine and it will find it. On ios I have to be more exact in my search terms and even then its more miss than hit.

It would be nice if the title (or at least, the OP) were corrected to "...from an unknown sample size using only in-app purchases from apps that use Flurry Analytics" rather than implying a market-wide figure.

Really though, other than games, what kind of popular apps use in-app purchases? I am stumped. Right now I have about 96 apps on my phone, and not a single one of them has in-app purchases (which is where these figures are coming from).

this isn't flamebait.

Such topic titles are like "Apple loses again," or "iPhone 4S: Not what the people wanted"

etc etc.

And you posting/quoting the 2nd post after we have already moved on is. Go away.

Because developer support is declining on android, the OS that currently has around 45% market share and is growing like gangbusters.

For every 1 app being developed on android, 3 are being made on iOS.

You should care about this.

Why? I havent found an app on either iPhone or Android worth purchasing. I get what you are saying but at the end of the day why should anybody care if there arent 1 million apps for android and instead only 300K?

I copied the exact headline of the article. Not like i twisted anything that was already written.

If the admin feels it should be changed, then I will change it.

Then your searching kung fu is weak, because I can easily find what I want in both stores.

Every single app i used on my Iphone 4, i found on Android, the quality was the same with the exception of Facebook (god its horrible on Android). The only ones i cant find on Android are gaming titles.

God yes. Look up Friendcaster though. Still flawed, but its definitely a few steps above FB's official app.

Horse hockey. Do you even pay attention to what you write? o_O

Always. Mac App store and iOS App stores are different entities though and I was referring only to the Mac App Store with the part you bolded. Any time I open the store on my MBA, none of the apps on the main page will be free, none of the apps advertised in the categories are free, none of the top apps are free, etc. If you want to find the free apps, you have to dig, and I mean, really dig. Even finding the filters to sort the free apps out is a pain. There's no web market for it either, have to use the application on the Mac. The web Market for Android is a brilliant move.

Whenever I get a customer that switches from Android to iPhone, I go over the basics like paid apps not being transferable. They usually say they downloaded only the free stuff. I think the conclusion we can all draw is that someone who hasn't invested much money or time in an echo system is more likely to be a switcher than someone who has. If I ever jumped to iOS, I would lose at least $100 worth of apps that I purchased, and that's a small part that's weighs in my decision to stay with Android (besides that fact that I don't care for how iOS looks/feels at all).

But you didn't include the part that explains the headline of the article:

It looked at a sample of in-app purchase data from apps with more than a million daily active users with versions on both Android and Apple.

I don't think you were being malicious (though I do hope you did at least read the whole article before making a thread on it), and I don't think mods are needed. It would simply be nice if you included that minor albeit very important detail in the OP. When I first saw this thread, I was expecting market-wide data to support those claims. :)

Bull. I just tried it and 3 apps on the main page are free, and all I did was a basic search and easily found free apps. What's your agenda?

Im sorry if I am unique compared to yourself and others. I search more than "Angry Birds" you know.

Example for the "ios can never do wrong" crowd. In the android market I type "WIFI analyzer" exactly like that. and I get a few dozen hits including the exact programs i want. And 99% are free too including mine.

I do the exact same search in ios and i get 2 hits and ya know what? Not only is there not one program there that I am looking for but one is free and the other one is not. Yet none are what I want.

hmmm.....Maybe my kung-fu is more Tai-Chi and more sophisticated than generic kung-fu.

Or maybe you should type "WiFi finder" instead and find 42 apps, with 4 of the top 6 being free? Weak.

I never said iOS can do no wrong, but I won't lie and say they can't do anything right either. I like both platforms, but the PR machine for the Android majority around here doesn't like that, do they?

When I looked this morning, there were none on the main page. I'm not at home now so I cannot look again. Incidentally, none of them have really been worth buying either. 5 bucks for a hastily made, next to useless, upscaled mobile app isn't a good value.

In contrast, to see the free apps on Android, you simply swipe over to the Free App screen. Takes about two seconds.

I don't have an 'agenda', as you put it, other than to illustrate that the Apple stores push people to the paid apps, regardless of whether there's a free app, whereas Android does not.

I just went on the Market to BUY an app called Grid Live Wallpaper, 5 pages of results without the one I wanting showing up. I typed the developers name in, and sure enough the app came up. If you type "grid live wallpaper" the 1st bunch of results are for "live grid wallpaper" and the rest are ones with similar names. Yet, the one with the exact name has to be found by using the authors name. Try it yourself, search "Grid Live Wallpaper" look at the 5 pages and tell me if you find what you find when you search "Artem Shvadskiy"
This is just 1 example, the Market is broke if you know exactly what you want, and god forbid there are apps with similar names.

The App Store isn't perfect, but it's about 10x better than Market, Amazon's store is about 5x better than Market and I'd use it 100% of the time if they weren't so slow at getting updates for apps.

\*EDIT*\ humm it's coming up now, but it's still towards the bottom of the page, underneath apps that don't even have the same damn name.

My point is that I dont HAVE to be so precise. Android search is more flexible.

BTW, I did you "WiFi finder" search in the market and 441 results, 175 which are free.

I use both ios and android markets without too much bias. Each has there flaws, its just when people post such utter nonsense and BS I tend to take a side. I had ranked on android on occasion too, just not as often.

Yes, it is, because its a topic that's been covered ad nauseum already, and the OP posted it full well knowing that it was just a jab in the face of the Android fans here and would do nothing but spark a petty flame war.

Hence, its clearly flame bait. I'm not saying the thread should be locked or anything, just making a comment on the thread.

This has been discussed already and Android fans are happy they are saving money on apps, while iOS fans are happy to spend more money on apps. Everyone is happy, life is good. Then iOS fans start saying, see, we spend more money on apps, therefore iOS is better. To which Android fans say, whatever.

I don't have a problem with the topic. I don't think it's flamebait, although given people's loyalty to their phones, it's clearly flammable. The success of an OS relies on the apps and developers of those apps. It's a new study with new data, and I think this is a legitimate topic of discussion.

Keep it all impersonal, please, and stay on topic.

I don't dispute the fact that Apple has more "in game" sales of items. However, this does not address what so ever 2 big things.. #1 paid apps (yes i know Android is lower here too) and ad income.

Ad revenue is the largest source of income for android devs, it is why Angry Birds was ad only for a long ass time on Android.
