I've got a myTouch 4G phone and would like to know if there is a way to temporarily silence all calls except calls from people who I choose.

This can probably be accomplished with Tasker, although I have no clue how to do it.

dingster, do you have a link? I searched the marketplace but couldn't find it. I found a few apps that do something similar, but are either costly ($4 for Profile Whitelist for example); or, they have weird permissions (write contact data when it just needs to read the list? fine gps but no gps features?)

I basically need a whitelist call/text app with a scheduler function, just like the OP. A few numbers permitted through but all others silenced during certain hours. Even though most of the calls are through google voice I can't set up an away time as my schedule changes.

I suppose in the meantime I'll dig around tasker to see if I can set something up, or use one of the manual apps for the time being.

Edit: I'll take a risk and am going to try out Profile Call Blocker. It's profile based and seems to tie into Google calendar (where I keep my schedule), which would be awesome since I don't have a standard schedule. Most of the permissions seem OK, though it's fairly new and if they wanna charge me $6 for it if I need more than the single profile in the trail, then meh. At that point I'd rather go with Profile since at least they tell you what each permission does.

Incidentally, for those on an iPhone, there is an app called iBlacklist that can block incoming calls. Requires a jailbroken iPhone.

I would be really appreciative if someone can point me out to a landline phone that can do this. My father is a moron and he graciously allowed someone who now resides outside of the USA to use our address and listed our landline number as the contact number. The guy owes some money and these collection agencies are annoying as all heck.

Try looking for Call&sms Filter on app brain

http://www.appbrain.com/browse/dev/EasyFilter

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and see how it works. Incidentally I tried that other app I mentioned in my last post, and I kinda like it's calendar integration. On the flip side, if I want it to block while I"m asleep I either have to create a "block all except contacts" profile and turn it off and on manually, or set up a new calendar with my sleep schedule :p

EDIT: From the screenshots it doesn't seem to have scheduling features, and I can no longer find in the market.

Uhhh...port the number to Google Voice and block the incoming calls that way? You have to bend over backwards to do so, but it should work: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/voice/thread?tid=2bf6a1bc6fb13b70&hl=en

*shrug* Best I got offhand. I think there are/were some in-line devices where you could program in phone numbers for black/white listing, but you'd have to install one on every used phone jack as far as I remember.

I believe Mr Number does exactly what you are asking.

This.

I use Mr Number and it works great. It has many options to chose from. You can have it block anyone not on your contact list, anyone not on your favs, anyone with a number starting with certain digits, and anyone with a private/unknown number. I use it to block private/unknowns because there has never once been a private number that called me to for a good reason.

I saw that when browsing the market. Does it have scheduling functions? I'd like to block Private/Unknown all the time, and block everyone except contacts during other, varying times. For example, for a two week period I want to block all but contacts for 9 days in a row with two different time schedules, then for the remaining 5 days I want to block using a different schedule.
