Android app disappeared from Google Play and can't sign up using downloaded .apk

I used to use an older version of the app and never updated it. I deleted it because I wanted to recreate my account but realized that the app is no longer found on the Google app store. So I searched and found the latest .apk file on apk4fun.

The problem is that I keep getting a "this version is too old, please update" error message when I try to sign up on this installed app. I' fairly certain that I'm using the latest version of the app. Anyone know what could be causing this and how to solve it? Is it because the traces of the older version app I had on the phone is still there?
 
Well not telling us what the app is kind of limits how we can help, but I suspect the fact that the app a) is no longer on the store and b) requires you to sign into some server/service, I suspect your problem is the service no longer exhist. The app is probably not getting a response from its intended server and assumes it needs an update.
 
Yeah, it sounds like access might have been shut off. Many companies winding down a service will first yank it from app stores and then turn off the service itself. Getting compute time and storage on cloud providers (like Amazon Web Services) isn't cheap!

The app is Tantan which is no longer found on the Google App Store. The app was working fine as of yesterday before I deleted my account because I wanted to recreate it, but I ran into these issues.

I downloaded APK 2.3.1 and also tried 2.2.2

Any help on how to get it working on my phone again? The app itself worked fine once logged in but I just can't get past the sign up because I keep getting a popup that I need to update the app even though 2.3.1 is the latest version. It just raised $30m+ in VC funding so I don't think it's winding down its services.

So it looks like the tantan service is still active for the iphone platform. My only guess now is the later versions of the app do better in-app version checking. Looks like you need to find an older version. Or an iphone.
