This is what I mean when I say "Obama owns this disaster now". He's certainly not responsible for the disaster, but the executive branch he is responsible for has botched much of the subsequent actions. Ultimately, he's responsible for that, just like Bush was responsible for the botching of Katrina-related activities.

This isn't a hurricane that came and went and the subsequent missteps that followed shortly thereafter. This hurricane keeps on coming and won't ever end until BP stops the hole they dug from spewing shit into all of our water. Obama didn't do this to us. He doesn't affect currents. He can't keep it from our beaches. He's not keeping BP from making it stop.

Yeah...we'll I've been looking at these events since I was 3 and received the coded messages via Popeye cartoons and the extra small print on the underside of Nestle Quik powdered strawberry mix cans. For your information Popeye and the Nestle bunny told me everything was going to be fine, but to buy some guns and ammo to protect myself and family from end of the world loons. They also told me told me I could dance if I want to, I could leave my friends behind, cause my friends don't dance and if they don't dance, well they're no friends of mine....

Because it's so hard to just put a stronger lens on. :p
65ft isn't really that far.

Haven't been on the water much have you?

A lot of the boom they are talking about is semi-submerged in water with these things called waves.... Good luck with your zoom lens.

Additionally, they can boom off an entire island 100 yards from the shore (boom is in sections to allow navigation that allows navigation to and from the island) but since they can't get within 65 feet of the boom they can't get to the island or marshes to take pictures of the wildlife.

This is a well designed and extremely effective plan to keep the media from covering the impact of the oil. Hell, in some areas your boat that is in your slip is within 65' of boom, does that mean you can't step foot on your boat tied up in your dock with a camera?

Government agencies are keeping us from cleaning it up, preventing it from getting to sensitive areas/inland waters and now they are preventing the media from documenting it. No one (at least in their right minds) is blaming Obama for the spill, its the cleanup and response that the Federal Government is royally fucking up.

Yep, but you also aren't hearing 1/10 of the outcry about how poorly it is being handled compared to the wringing of hands that was going on in the media post Katrina about how poorly that response was being handled.

Trust me, no one knows that better than me.

Now that we are into tropical season the weather has been hampering a ton of cleanup efforts which just makes the time that was wasted exponentially more harmful. The time was wasted purely because of a "CYA" attitude and approach from the various Federal agencies. At least during the aftermath of Katrina the .gov eventually got their shit together (sorta), we are still fighting the same red tape that we were fighting months ago. Never in my life did I ever think I would hear people down here say they wished FEMA would take over.

Just yesterday we got news that oil has reached Lake Pontchartrain. So much more could have been done, so many good plans by local officials were ignored, so many assets that could have significantly helped were never procured, so many habitats destroyed and will be destroyed that didn't have to be.....

I was in Orange Beach for the 4th and those folks aren't doing to well either. I talked to many a business owner who didn't expect their business to survive the summer. I took the kids to "The Track" and the big waterpark, both were insanely slow for even a regular holiday during the summer. The kids didn't have to wait in any line except for the surfing thing at the waterpark (5-10 people in line at most) and at the track they didn't even have to get off of the go carts to ride again. Last year that would have been a half hour wait at the minimum.

Tons of workers on the beach not doing a damned thing productive. 30 guys in a "group" and at any given time 5 of them would be holding open plastic bags, 5 of them would be scooping tiny scoops of sand into the bag, and 20 would be sitting down under the tent. Its no different than what is happening down here but it is just as absurd, nothing but a dog and pony show.

i agree its NOT obama's fault. just as it was nto Bush's fault for katrina. its the GOVERMENTS fault. while bush and obama may be the head of such goverment there is really little they can do personlly besides bitch and threaten to fire someone.

to little was done at teh start and to many let BP handle it. Now they are tryingto cover up how bad it is. its really a shame.

They did this the first week of the spill. BP would turn off the monitors when reporters came near so they couldn't see how bad things were. They even forbid the coast guard to tell people how bad it was the first week. They hoped to fix it before word got out. That pushed back efforts to contain it for that week allowing it to get worse.
