- Gigabyte motherboard AMD-761 Socket-A (Duron/Tbird up to 1.2GHz)
- Andara ATX Case w/300W PSU, floppy drive included

i bought this back in January when it was posted here before
its a gigabyte GA-7DX mobo (rev 2.2)
i've got a 1.4 athlon in it, there is a bios update on gigabytes website. but to load the BIOS u need a slower processor
it took awhile to get it 100% stable. more work then other mobos
and the case is kinda cheap. the side panels dont stay in place very well.
but for $86, its a decent deal.
there is also a way to hack the board to run 266FSB, altough i haven't tried it
also as far as overclocking goes, its not very good, the highest i can run my 1400 stable is ~1478

Sweet! Thanks Marill999, for those that remember the original andara project was on a GVC GT133KT board, for a few dollars cheaper, I believe around 78.00 and that was a smoking deal! not a bad motherboard this time around!

Some people have said the PS is cheap and craps out. Anyone have problems with this deal they'd like to share? I'm thinking about buying a couple against future systems for family and friends....

I built 4 of these for folks. It was a 250W PS, but I cannot remember the manf. All 4 are still going strong, no problems here.

I am using one of the original Andaras right now ... with a 900Mhz Athlon, running Win2k. Kinda stable. At least one, (possibly 2) out of the 3 of the PCI slots is flaky, have had to use a USB ethernet adapter for LAN connectivity and that is a bit flaky too. MisterE has a BIOS update (google Andara & MisterE) which may help with some of the problems, but I have not tried it.

This new barebones has a different case, bigger than the original (but was better built, from what I can see). I have not had problems with the power supply on mine, just wish the case had a reset button instead of just the ON/OFF.

Overall, not bad for a starter system.

Edit: Oh, and this new one uses more expensive DDR. The original used SDRAM.

My wife's PC is running the original, (I think it's a 250 watt I can't remember) it's running an 800 duron 256+pc133 a GF3(non TI), a TDK CDRW and one floppy. I'm going to toss in a 1 gig tbird soon.

Microsoft's Windows Update has a new driver for the incredibly picky PC-Tel modem that shipped with the original Andara box. Works great where the Micron driver would not install and the PC-Tel reference driver just would not work. I'd been using a Compaq driver from that UK modem site.
