And you thought that the Radeon 9700 was impressive...

SGI InfiniteReality4

One InfiniteReality4 pipe has 10GB of frame buffer memory, 1GB of dedicated texture memory, and 192GB/s of internal bandwidth. And, like InfiniteReality3, you can have have up to 16 pipes in one system. :Q

that picture of that boy and girl is crazy...I can't believe that was rendered. I wonder how close we are to not being able to tell the difference between CGI and the real thing. I'd give it 5 years.

That image based rendering is mind-boggling.

Wow, I'm impressed, but one of the pics does seem strange. Check this out. Everything looks very realistic except the wall on the right. It's completely flat; the details are all on the flat texture mapped on the frame. Makes me wonder if any of the other details are part of the texture instead. It would be easy to take a real picture of a real wall (or draw a realistic flat picture of the wall) and map it to a wire frame.

It would be better to watch the video (especially if you have a broadband connection) than judge a low resolution JPEG image.

What is the FPS of Quake3 on that bad boy? We really could use some benches at 16x12, 16X AA, etc. Even with all the uber nice features, we all want to know benches.

Early testing indicates the XVR-4000 graphics accelerator is expected to deliver nine times better 3D geometry performance than SGI's Infinite Reality (IR-3)
If they mean 9 times better performace than InfiniteReality, perhaps. But nine times better than InfiniteReality3? Something doesn't sound right.
