And yet another Linux question(y'all gettin' tired of 'em yet?)....

My Win2k system is set up to share internet(it's dial-up) and be a DHCP server.
I have my Red Hat 7.2/Win2k sys connected by ethernet to it, and I configured Red Hat (during installation) to look for a DHCP server when I logged in. The problem is, when I log in, it works fine, but it initiates my dial-up connection on my win2k sys(I have autodial enabled). I don't know exactly what's trying to use the internet when I login, but I was wondering if anyone else had a similar setup and had found a solution to it.

I don't want to have to disable autodial.

Any suggestions?

why dont you setup the rh box with a static ip? you dont have anything that is starting in rh that is trying to connect to the internet do you ? ..

I don't think so, unless sendmail is tryin to.

I am such a dumbass I forgot about static ip addresses. 🙂

No, really, I think I'll try that, and then im finding out wth is tryin to access the internet.

With less than 100's of machines static ips make more sense (to me). Try using static ips. Also, check to see what you have startup when you login/boot. I dont think the dhcp request would set off the Windows autodial, but in my experience Windows autodial is flakey at best.
