Left work and was getting ready for a weekend of hard riding so I went to go fill up my tires with air. Rear one was really low (10-12 psi) so I did an inspection of the tire and found a big ass nail sticking out of it. Pulled up google maps on the BB and call the guys I bought the bike from. No tire in stock. Called the place they recommended. No tire in stock. Called the place down south a ways. No tire in stock. GODDAMNIT!!!

So now I have to order a tire (probably just gonna order a new set), gotta pay to get them mounted, and I've gotta run to an auto store to get some sealant (probly the green goo shit) so I can ride the bike to the shop to get it repaired.

Grr, was gonna have such a good time. Now what do I do?

Find a place to repair the tire for like $20? Maybe not as many open today.

Nail is on the left side, so must have picked it up going around a corner.

Don't want to repair it as I'm starting to get some cracks around the rims and these are the original tires. It's an 07 with only 3300mi on it, 1200 of which I put on in the last month. It was a repo so there's a good chance the tires have been just sitting for a while.

I was looking at getting a new set, this kinda just forces me too.

Stock size of the rear is 130/70-17 (small fuckers) for rear and 110/70-17 for fronts.

If you put goo or slime in that tire, be aware that some places will hand it right back to you and tell you that they won't fix it. It makes a huge mess that is a pita to clean up.

Yup, most tire places hate that stuff.

Word of warning, for anyone who ever uses a "fix a flat" can. Read and follow the instructions!! That stuff goes into your tire as a sprayed liquid, with a flammable propellant (butane or propane, likely). If you read the can, it says to fill the tire, then drive to the closest place you can get air, then deflate the tire and fill it back up with air.

There's a reason for that.

The liquid stays liquid, so long as that propellant is in your tire, and only solidifies once it's in contact with air. So if you take it straight to a tire guy, not only is he dealing with deflating a tire filled with flammable gas (in a shop.....yeah, I bet that's fun! ), but he's also going to have to deal with a super-gummy mess, once he breaks the bead on that tire.

He WILL hate you for your stupidity. Trust me on this. I've heard this story from more than one tire guy!

yup, i was in a dire need once and had to use it. i was out in the wilderness and popped both my rear tire and my spare trying to get back out. i did deflate and reinflate when i got back to town, then the next weekend took it to my friends shop to get it repaired. ended up with a new set a few months later, he bitched at me still due to the crap all over the rim. he told me to chip the shit off of there before he would work with it lol. it was better than having him charge me for cleaning it up himself tho. he did give me a patch kit to carry in my truck after that, he told me he would rather pay for that than clean up fix-a-flat mess.

Fix a flat has been non-flammable for a long time now.

Yeah, well, I'm pretty old, and it was a while ago when I was told that. :sneaky:

Oh, another thing about fix-a-flat, or the green goop. If you have automatic tire pressure sensors, using either one of those products will pretty much ruin the sensors. D:
