the folks that are getting bought out will do VERY well. I've read reports of cash lump sums of 70,000 plus vouchers for a new car.
The UAW workers are not being bought out, they are being terminated.

where does this information come from?

There are a lot of links in the Networking for Jobs thread at the top here as well as many threads and links on the Politics & News Forum area.

I just started a DEPRESSION Thread. There is no way the Economy could ansorb or recover from so many more massive numbers of job losses in addition to the masive amount of jobs being shipped overseas.

Someone said "The Rich" will keep the Economy afloat but at this rate there won't be enough "rich" to be able to keep up and do the job, that is why it will fall into a Depression.

My question was specifically where did he get the specific information that the "laid off" UAW members were not elibible for the compensation packages I mentioned.

Tough, yes, it hurts, but unless they are totally willing to help their employers, the USA autocompanies are at a big disadvantage.... :(

And that's why quality is lacking with these American automakers

I think we have enough economic security to prevent a literal depression... but a figurative depression for millions of people out of work is what's already going on.

The rich get richer and poor get poorer... that's always a bad sign.

There won't be enough "rich" left to stop an all out DEPRESSION".

Verizon just announced it is laying off 74,000 employees (it was supposed to be 25,000 but was revised up considerably)

That is 150,000+ jobs lost today alone!!!

Maybe you should learn to read.

Verizon Communications has offered a voluntary severance package to all of its 74,000 non-union management employees

See the word VOLUNTARY. Why don't you go figure out what that means before you post again.

Sure looks like they will be hurting too:

Company spokeswoman Sharon Cohen-Hagar said Verizon expects ``several thousand'' managers to accept the package, which includes two weeks of pay for each year of employment up to 35 weeks, plus a bonus ranging from $15,000 to $30,000. A typical manager may earn $75,000 a year in salary, or about $1,400 per week.

And what about the rest of the workers?

A separate buyout offer will be made to at least 12,000 retirement-eligible union technicians and call center operators upon ratification of their new contract

See the word RETIREMENT-ELIGIBLE. Since you obviously aren't smart enough to know, so I'll tell you. It's people who are going to retire in a few years anyways, so the company buys them out so they can get them off the payroll.

Show me where they are being fired. This is why you are an idiot.

You have said that the economy can't recover from the massive numbers of job losses and jobs being shipped overseas. Did you not say that? hmmm...

Maybe you should try taking some economics courses before you come here and make ignortant statements about the economy. Because the more you type, the more it proves that you don't know what you're talking about and what an idiot you really are.
